HTC U11+ review

27 November 2017
HTC U11+ could have been the next big Pixel, but it just wasn't meant to be. Instead, it became the next squeezable HTC flagship fully equipped to compete with Google's XL sequel. Underdog or not, the HTC U11+ has the dog tags of a fighter.

I hate some OEMs are using limits on how long you can shoot 4K.
They did not do it in past years.

"We can't argue with the choice of CPU or the amount of RAM and storage. This phone scored the highest mark we've seen an Android phone score on Antutu."

Not the first time we see HTC "optimize" benchmark app .

battery is weak. and yes Samsung and LG and Huawi are showing demos of their phones everywhere whereas HTC demos are nearly nowhere. boomsound is good but i wont buy a phone without 3.5mm. design is stunning but also GS8s design is.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2017Thanks for replying to the comment as many people have the ... moreYes, we always check the battery stats after a test. If it's a suspisious one we even reset the device and start over. With U11+ we found the only two things to drain the battery during the SOT tests - Video/Chrome app and screen. Nothing else. Obviosuly it's an issue with software or hardware, but we don't know what. If the screen gets hot because eating too much power juice - this would explain the poor battery life and the limited 300nits brightness for overheating prevention. It's just a thought, of course.

No bias here, it was a retail unit and it was a legit test. If we get our hands on another unit we'll retest it after the next major update, that's for sure.

Max SoT for me is 10h and this is amazing. Also, camera is better than on S8, S8+... Only problem with HTC is marketing and not performance

              Guys,
How will you explain that on box photos there is adapter to 3.5mm jack and You say there is no inside? So that there is no audio test..
              Or there is other explanation?

              Regards

300 nits is dim even for AMOLED, not talking about the LCD (which is used in this phone), who are usually brighter by huge margin.

Battery Life has to be wrong, HTC usually does just as well if not better than LG at optimizing their phones to get the best battery life possible from a snapdragon soc. which has always been better than Samsung's snapdragon optimization. Using LCD shouldn't cause such a huge difference than similar phones using oled, just looking at the normal U11 should make that clear. If the battery life is indeed as bad as GSM says it is then HTC will no doubt fix it with an update because the phone is obviously not using the final software optimization that will come with the official release of the U11+.

With the exception of headphone jack, battery life, and sunlight ration, pretty good job HTC! Try again soon, we'll be happily expecting a better phone.

Had big expectations for this phone...

U11 can be found on eBay for about 500euro(6/128gb).Why pay 300euro more for this one?
It comes with slightly smaller display(5,5"),but that LCD5 unit is obviously (way) superior to this LCD6.And this + version have 30% bigger battery and lower endurance?Everything else is exactly the same...chipset,connectivity,audio,camera...
I guess HTC is planning some huge discounts for holidays...

Removed from my favorites list, as this thing's battery stinks for something that should be at least 80-90 battery endurance score. Waiting for something more efficient.

U11 has been out for months and has probably received a few updates since. Its quite possible that both are performing the same, it's just that original pictures taken with U11 are outdated now.
If you take a look at GSMARENA side by side comparison https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=8908&idPhone2=8630, the fish at the bottom right specifically. You'll see that the noise reduction is better on the U11+ and there is no longer an oversharpening going on.

The HTC U11 had an autobrightness in bright light that increased the max brightness. Is this not in the U11+? 300 nits seems absurdly low for a display that's supposed to be better, especially if it's the cause of lower battery life.
