Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) hands-on review

19 December 2017
Wait what?! So the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) are here to replace the Galaxy A5 (2017) and A7 (2015)? That sure makes perfect sense. Although, from a more serious perspective, what better way to show continuity with the acting flagship Galaxy S8 line? And since one is small, the other is larger, the latter gets a 'plus', right? Things are starting to sound a bit better already.

to cut 4K video recording just to allow the "S9 to breath more easily" is not understandable for me. the market is full of mid-range phones shotting 4K videos, but not Samsung's. that's weird and a no go for me...

Still wondering what is good about these new A8 as compared to my S7 apart from not-so-much infinity display. S8 with promotion deals is far better and S7 is good value now.

Those low end Samsungs are silly

Expensive as a chiense flagship (that is more feature packed than Samsung flagship these days), yet as underwhelming as a $100 chiense phone. Who is even buying those?

AnonD-724280, 20 Dec 2017Bear in mind that a8 doesnt have 2k or 4k video recording, ... moreTotally agree with you, however, there are millions of consumers out there who buy a phone not on specs but on brand loyalty.... and on a budget.

I'm disappointed with the A8. Three things went very wrong. First - camera. No optical image stabilisation is a disaster as it was in the A5 2017 as well (takes horrible pictures). Second - bezels. Top and bottom one could've been smaller (especially the bottom one) but the side bezels are just humongous! In 2017/18! Third - price. It's stupidly expensive, it costs more than the S7, as much as S7 edge (ehcih is better in every single way) and there already some deals that brig the S8's price down to the same level. All of those phones are better than the A8!

By the time a8 launched, g6 will be much cheaper than a8 which i don't see why anyone should buy it

                            Bezels killed it.

Smaller screen and yet it is wider than S8! Keeping a faint hope there will be a successor to the A3 or a S9 Mini with near flagship specs.

Interesting, what will they do with A3? Will they make one under J series, if, as someone mentioned, there will be no A8 mini or something?
I replaced my S5 Neo with A3 2017 because of smaller dimensions, would have gone for Apple SE, but that thing is bit old and not waterproof and the price on A3 was way too tempting for the price-performance-looks ratio to pass :).

If only the phone had wireless charging, then it would be my top pick!

Without 660 SOC no chance, moreover costly, too bulky(191 gm). Better to go for one plus or Sony

With 2+6 cpu combination, i somehow expecting its the A75+A55 , not the big.little architecture (a73+a53)

so exynos 7885 is below SD 660 performance and rear camera is absolutely the one in a7 2017, except for brightest aperture. im waiting for the full review gsmarena!
