Galaxy S9 vs. Xperia XZ2 shootout

02 April 2018
Samsung has the Plus, Sony has the Compact, but the two companies see the base size differently. It's these regular versions that we'll now be taking a closer look at - this is the Galaxy S9 versus Xperia XZ2 camera comparison.

So, in the conclusion it states that Xperia XZ2 is better than Galagxy S9 in low-light photography. Nice.

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2018What have Sony got against OIS?Their EIS called SteadyShot is nearly as good as OIS for photos, and beats OIS for videos.
They just need OIS, but they can't put it right now as it cannot be disabled physically when it's not needed, especially for videos.

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2018Sony has the worst camera among all flagships. Even OnePlus... more5T? Is this some part of the April Fools jokes? Not even that "flagship-killer" can beat the XZ Premium's camera completely.
Don't get me wrong, the 5T has an impressive camera quality for what it is, but better than the XZ2? FREAKING HELL NO!

So the last thing for Sony to do is, add proper optical stabilization!
OIS can't be implemented by Sony this time because there's no way to disable it physically when it's not supposed to be used.
For photos, it can do wonders, but for videos, it's terrible tbh. The S9 uses both OIS and EIS in 4K, so it's really smoother than the XZ2, but man, look how much the FoV is cropped on both (both uses EIS, the S9 just has OIS in addition to it). Even then, the wobbling effect that the OIS on the S9 is still quite apparent at times.
IMO, the best phone OIS in a smartphone for video is on iPhones. My sister has the 7 Plus and I gotta admit that its videos are crazy smooth (forget the colors, details, contrast, etc. first) like they're taken with a gimball. But of course I'm still most impressed with SteadyShot in 1080p with Intelligent Active mode on, as it shows literally the same gimball-like smoothness despite the lack of proper stabilization hardware for it.

Now people can call me a fanboy, but I'm not denying. It's true, I'm a Sony fan, but unlike others, I have my own reason. Whether you like it or not, it's none of my business. I just love Sony for real, as my personal experience with their products has always been some of the best, if certainly not the best in my entire life.

What have Sony got against OIS?

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2018i dont see extra detail in the noisy mess that the xz2 captures Don't let Samsung's oversharpening fool you. It's only rendering the textures nicely, but no, there's no detail there. Heck, you can't even zoom in there as much as you can on the XZ2.
I won't blame you if you want less noisy pictures, but I have to disagree with your saying that the XZ2 took a noisy mess image, because for one, it's marvelous, not a mess, and two, it's noisier, BUT more detailed at the same time. The reviewers themselves confirm it.

Wow ..the sony is good. This makes me want the compact.. only non glass phone left.
