Huawei P20 Lite review

25 May 2018
The lite series used to be the new minis, but then people voted against the compact phones sharing nothing with the headliner but the name. So, today the latest Huawei P20 Lite isn't just a fancy name bearer - it has what it takes to be worthy of the P20 branding - the notched screen, the glass design with gradient paint, a dual-camera on the back, Face Unlock as well.

I picked the phone up from Best Buy Canada for $399 (nice price). It looks high end, and it is speedy through most tasks. My only gripe is that there is no equalizer on board, no EQ with Google Play Music, or with Spotify. Also, I've had a few people say that I cut out a bit on calls. But I have only talked twice on the phone, and with older folk...so the jury is out on that one :-) Other than that, it's got a great screen, It's nice and light, battery life is fine, snappy fingerprint reader, face unlock, work very well with all of Google services...I guess that's a give in. Overall, I'd recommend the phone. It is as good as an iPhone 6S, and it's a third of the price of an iPhone 8. Cheeers

I just bought one in HK for $295US, which is much lower the 300 EURO. Quite a nice phone at that price.

Bad processor choice. They are using this same processor in a $150 phone too. This low-mid range processor is a bad choice for a $300 phone.
Should have gone for at least SD636 if they dont a have a good processor in their stable. Even their older Kirin 950 or 955 would have been good for this range. Bad performer.

Horrible software, non-unlockable bootloader, and bad hardware makes this an obvious overpriced piece of imitation.

To be honest, P10 is the best alternative phone for this price segment. Display aside, it's a great performer, great cameras, great battery life, and awesome back design since it's not using glass. :)

It's only a bad phone majorly advertised by Huawei. The results aren't surprising considering ram and storage, camera and battery too.The phone has nothing to do with P20 series and it's just another phone with 659 on board. The price isn't cheap either.400$.For that price they could have offered Snapdragon 636 or 660.
You can buy Samsung S7 edge 32 Gb,LG G6,Huawei P10,Huawei Honor 9,Xiaomi mi 6,Xiaomi mi Mix,ZTE nubia Red Magic all NEW for 400$ or 4up to 450$ these days.
Or you might as well save up for few months and buy Oneplus6 for 530$,i'd rather spend more to get something amazing, than spend less like 400$ and regret it for years.

I would say battery life is pretty average.
It is approx 30% worse than my previous: galaxyA3 (2017).
And, that is the same conclusion as gsmarena tests indicate.
Usage pattern is a very individual thing... number of apps, brightness, bluetooth, number of accounts to sync, ...
I think the gsmarena battery life tests are among the best there is. But still, they are relative to your usage pattern.

I think honor 10 is more close to p20 as a compact virsion of it, xcpt for the camera placemnt

Performance wise and price comparison, P10 is the best alternative phone because of Kirin 960, traditional display (16:9), and front fingerprint scanner!

                                  So, something is wrong here...

Ι won't get bored at saying that a kirin 659 , essentially the same as the 655 in the p9 lite is a joke in 2018. It will lag like crazy sooner rather than later. And it's a pity because it could be a decent midranger otherwise.
