Oppo Find X hands-on review

19 June 2018
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, notches spread like an infection from one phone to another. Now there’s a cure – pop-up cameras. The Oppo Find X is the second phone in as many weeks to feature one and it’s even more elaborate than what we saw on the vivo NEX S.

Let's talk about:
"Chinese software".

ColorOS is still my main reason why I won't buy Oppo phones.
But I appreciate their hard-work for making this impressive device.

u guys sure do losts of reviews, hand-ons for Oppo and One+ co.

Hope u do more reviews for other Cos as well, thnx

The samsung S10 better be something amazing. The competition is really bringing the heat, oppo have managed to create a bezeless curved phone before samsung did. The ball is in their court now, the android market is so competitive, Samsung can't afford to bring incremental upgrades like apple.

Just not a fan of ColorOS. Looks to be the best design of the year. Too bad it doesn't look durable in the long run with that moving part and glass rears.

Design is beautiful… I'm loving that blue glass looking back, but seem fragile. Also no headphone jack, no fingerprint scanner and 1000EUR is just too much…

Still, congrats for the innovation, hope more Android phones learn from this notch-less examples and start innovating like Oppo or Vivo.

No 3.5mm jack = Fail (Should be included as user choice even though BlueTooth 5.0 has vastly improved audio)
No card slot = Fail (Should give everyone a choice even though internal storage is decent, not everyone wants to store data in cloud)
Price = Fail (For 1000 EUR, you expect a QHD Screen over FHD, FingerPrint Sensor, 3.5mm Jack and card slot)
No FingerPrint Sensor = Fail (Should be placed on the back at a comfortable position right below the camera, not everyone wants to use Face ID for privacy and security reasons.)
ColorOS = Too Restrictive (May not allow some third party stuff). Some people may like it while some may feel it is a replica of iOS.

since this phone is made of glass, front and back, and we always want to have some protection for it ..
my question is, how will you put a case on it since there's a slider at the top?
and if there would be one, a case without the upper part would look incomplete for me.
                  what do you guys think?

The Voice of Reason, 20 Jun 2018Camera is mediocre at best. Let's be honest: it's just awfu... more1. The cameras are above average/good; stop hating.
                    2. It's called "palm rejection software". You should probably search it up.
                    3. Stop crying and go buy the Meizu 15 Plus. It sounds perfect for you.

Rikkon, 20 Jun 2018I don't know about camera quality because they didn't post ... more"For those of us who prefer flat 16:9 screen there are no flagship models available this year so will have to stick to some last year models like One+ 5 or some "premium midrangers" with decent but less *powerful chipsets and cameras."

Actually there's one: Meizu 15 Plus

The Voice of Reason, 20 Jun 2018Camera is mediocre at best. Let's be honest: it's just awfu... moreI don't know about camera quality because they didn't post the original pictures, just the compressed ones with the obvius loss of resolution... And while I agree with you about the curved screen, Samsung has been using them since the S7 Edge and have sold millions of those and S8, S8+ and now S9 and S9+. So it can't be just a gimmick or a marketing strategy or else it would have disappeared a couple of years ago. Even the Nokia 8 Sirocco with a 16:9 screen has curved bezels. For those of us who prefer flat 16:9 screen there are no flagship models available this year so will have to stick to some last year models like One+ 5 or some "premium midrangers" with decent but less powerfull chipsets and cameras.

                          Dear Gsmarena,
Can't you make images gallery like normal pictures open up on google, its very annoying gallery type, especially on mobile.

Looking this slide out camera oppo find X, I directly remember Nokia N9 phone..

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2018All that work and no stereo speakers? Why cheap out at the ... moreHaving a moving section where one of the speakers would need to be could be part of the reason. Enough room for an earpiece, not enough for a speaker. In the same way the rear camera has to be on the slider or the slider would be trying to move through the camera. I don't think this is going to be the long term solution to the all-screen problem.

I think they had to put the rear camera at the moving mechanism because it is likely that part is empty. I don't think of anything else they can put there except maybe antenna wires.

Looking at all this notch, pop up,etc I could probably live without a selfie camera if they add a micro mirror besides the main camera just like some old Nokia's did.
However for me the best solution is keeping the front bezels and using them for other things as well like the front facing stereo speakers along with the Kinect style camera.
And now that I think about it,who did really request the full front screen thing. As far as i remember the front facing stereo speakers were the popular thing which most real fans were requesting.

Very promising device. But I fear, as adding a moving part to any device, increases the risk of failure

Their UI is not for me.
But I want to congratulate them on their bold move & show other Android OEMs to f'ing get rid of the notch!!!
