BlackBerry KEY2 review

10 July 2018
BlackBerry is well into its second comeback year and it has been getting plenty of attention. The Canadian company’s KEY2 is a well-refined successor to the KEYOne. It brings a new dual-camera system, which is a first for any BlackBerry. Along with this, an updated CPU, increased RAM, and a new keyboard with improved tactile movement and feedback.

mimi77777, 10 Jul 2018Best Business Phone of the Year!!! Good Job BlackBerry!!!I purchased this phone in 2019 , my previous phone was a iPhone 7plus , and honestly I was not impressed with typing long emails ,and or trying to type in a moving vehicle (not when I'm driving) also I never got use to typing on a glass screen I just couldn't get use to it period, Ian really enjoying the key2 great smartphone IMHO..... One more thing the battery is awesome.

I disliked this model. As soon as I learnt it was Android 😟👎

Harleen, 10 Sep 2018Do Blackberry users in India face the problem with the serv... morewhich case?

I've been using this now for 3 weeks and I'm loving it. The build quality is impressive and the swipe feature on the keyboard actually works well. I have not noticed any camera issues and I'm coming from a google pixel 2xl. Of course the camera on the pixel is better, but for me having a device that manages all my files, emails ,texts securely is really what I'm looking for. I highly recommend this device for someone who does not require a device for binge watching youtube, netfilxs or any other streaming service. The Key2 can do these things with ease but, it's intent is more of a "business device". Bring on the "KEY3"

Do Blackberry users in India face the problem with the services due to company's case with Indian Government?

                            I'm waiting BlackBerry PRIV 2

Dnks77, 03 Sep 2018Personally what i like about BB is The Hub, Password Manage... moreJust remembered, Key2 is not water resistant, unlike P20 pro and S9+

Personally what i like about BB is The Hub, Password Manager, security, and the Elegant look. BB Passport had loud speakers and amazing clarity of pictures. Unfortunately BB never made phones like that. Key2 has some nice interesting features like,
                                1. Privacy shade
                                2. Spacebar camera, pictures stored in safe where no one can access.
                                3. Dtek security
                                4. Keyboard
                                5. Elegant look.
                                6. Password Manager
                                7. Hub

Honestly, these are the only feature worth buying. Flaws for this phone is camera, and the home screen button while swiping up for typing, as far as i have seen reviews on YouTube. I personally do not own this phone.
                                But im considering.

                                Im lost between Key2, Oneplus6, S9+, p20pro, Note9.

Im looking for A phone with long lasting battery, my usage would be,

                                1. Hotspot
                                2. Camera (not for social media, but to click pictures of our company products)
                                3. Security since ill be using for business use.

Not looking for any gaming phone.

Why Blackberry is putting so many limitations for itself, which is making the brand less popular for public. In addition to samsung if blackberry gives 2 to 3 extra features then it will rock in the market.

The Key2 is significantly worse than the Key1:

1.) The display is much darker
2.) The extra keys (2nd function) are gray (Key1 white) and thus difficult to read
3.) The special android keys are not permanent displayed, in a dark environment, these keys must first be activated
4.) The vibartion function when touching keys is worse. You have the impression of getting electrocuted every time.
5.) No support for Flip Case.

                                        I did some rough calculations.
If they had kept the width of the device and display, used on-screen navigation keys, and extended the hight slightly, they could have made a device with a 16:9 screen at about 5.1 inch, in the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S9+ (slightly taller, but slightly less wide).

It would have been a big device considering the display size, but this phone is about its keyboard.
People buy phones at those sizes in quite large quantities so the size would probably not been that much of an issue.

That way they could have had full app compatibility. It would have also worked for the occasional video (or simply offer landscape control over playback when using Cast).

If there were competing products on the market, the compromise they went for with the incompatible aspect ratio, would have probably severely affected their sales.
Any claims that this aspect ratio is better for documents doesn't hold up, as they could have simply blacked out parts of the screen in a special reading mode.

But if BlackBerry wants mainstream success they should probably do something similar to the Moto Mods, and offer different types of keyboards that attaches to a phone that is a full touch. The upcoming qwerty for Moto Mods doesn't seem to come with Backlight, and not with anything similar to BlackBerrys touch sensitive keyboard.
And BlackBerry could also do a version that covers the screen for an experience similar to this (perhaps on a flip, so it can easily be flipped on to the back, for quick full display access).
