Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium hands-on review

21 July 2018
Premium Sony Xperias is where a lot of firsts happen - first 4K display on a smartphone with the Z5 Premium, first HDR display on a smartphone with the XZ Premium alongside 960fps super slow-mo video recording, and now, on the Xperia XZ2 Premium - a dual camera for the first time on a Sony smartphone (a bit late to that party, eh?).

The low light photos look like smeared paintings. Sure the brightly lit portions of the photos look nice but elsewhere in the shadows look horrible. Unusable for anything other than Facebook viewing on a mobile device. The videos look like they came out of a blender with evident focus hunting. None of the videos are usable for other than for mobile phone viewing. Good try Sony but the low light photo and video capture are not good enough for PC viewing, more so for TV viewing.

The dual camera photo mode justs looks like a mode with more aggressive noise reduction. Less noise is visible, but also less details. I think you would get the same result with a single camera when you apply additional luminance noise reduction with Photoshop Express

The low light stills are already exceptional. They are comfortably bettering the pixel 2 XL. Don't even get me started on the video camera. Best camera phone till date. Period

Screen is WRGB made by LG and modified by Sony.
It can do 1000 nits too, like G7

Why are people complaining about the bezels? My xa1 ultra has very thin bezels at the side and it is apparently disadvantageous, I ended up buying a case to avoid accidental touches therefore bulking up the phone and thus defeating the purpose of a near bezel less phone (at the side).

Thumbs up for that excellent cameras.
