Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 hands-on review

01 August 2018
Tablets never killed the PC, but they did change how we look at laptops – between keyboard add-ons and styluses, a modern 2-in-1 is an alleged Swiss knife of productivity. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 is bundled with an S Pen and you can get a Book Cover keyboard if you type more often than you sketch.

I'd like to see a comparison with Samsungs nearest tablet competitor....oh wait, GSM Arena hasn't reviewed an Apple Tablet since 2015.

        They're all over these though.

Fahd, 03 Aug 2018How does this compare to the Microsoft surface go? higher resolution, super amoled screen, longer battery life, more software availability. I can't think of a reason why Surface will be better. Past versions of Surface are buggy.

regs, 01 Aug 2018164 mm is a perfect width in a portrait orientation, but it... more4:3 is ridiculously bad for tablets and anything really. Basically the only thing that keeps iPads back still (apart from its closed os, but that is an acquired taste).

There is nothing, *nothing* that 4:3 does that 3:2 wouldn't do better. Even 16:10 is better in most things. Indeed being used in portrait mode 16:10 is slightly more cumbersome than the other too, but after almost 5 years of note 10.1 use I can see that it is easily accommodated too. In everything else even 16:10 is better than 4:3

But IMO 3:2 is the ideal. The easiest to use in porttrait, wide-screen still (for movies, YouTube, etc), best for reading (books are 2.83:2, which is very close to 3:2), etc.

                4gb, no thank you.

                I prefer a highspec 6gb tablet.

There are things people need and there are things technology can deliver. The gaps between them is what leads to people having multiple devices. It does not mean people do not need a 'do-it-all' device. I mean if it can 'really' do it all, who wouldn't want it? the closest device that has come to being a do-it-all is the smartphone. When it solves the advantages the rest of the devices are giving, the other devices will disappear like flip-phones did.
                      the list is:

                      1) screen real-estate - if folding screens that can be pushed into smartphones with ease of use, tablets will naturally disappear.
                      2) Processing power of a Desktop / Laptop on your smartphone - When cloud computing becomes even more a reality and you can reliably work with the screen real-estate on your smartphone that screens to your computer / laptop at home or work, laptops for mobility will disappear as well. (P.S. : Laser projected Keyboards)
                      3) Smartwatches are here to stay - mainly cause all the activity trackers and sensors available and the ease of having notifications on your watch. It can become obsolete if all these can be incorporated into a watch strap and have my mobile just manage the tracking or communicate with the device. (P.S: battery life is a major reason they aren't popular yet. Its only natural I expect my smartwatch to let me use it for music without being it a strain on my battery.

I do NOT need a Pen. Make a stylus less version which would be far cheaper and sell a lot more.

Can you get true surround sound with this using just headphones or do you get simulated surrounds instead? Do you need a special headphone to get surround?

How beautiful it is of no use, we need Surface like Laptop with Windows OS but thicker to handle heat and performance, People and ad is all about Slim but not of use of people who really want a versatile working device, Ultimate is Surface device or build like it thicker and 2 to 3 mm will bring lots of differences in Heat dissipation and performance.
People will extra money will like to buy this kind for ShowOFF and few organizations will benefit who created app fro their business and centralize other than Android tablet spending fortune is foolish

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2018Nope it's just late Steve Jobs and apple got "Post PC" wron... moreIPad sales tells you that you and gsmarena got it wrong.

IPad sells almost as much as the laptop market combined.

It is actually google that killed tablets though. They were in a course to eclipse PCs in total sales and then google decided that android was too open so in their attempt to push their closed source OS (chrome OS) they put the tablet market a solid decade back.

I mean they are the future still, we are just forced to use this ancient (laptop) design a bit further.

70% of what you do on a laptop is done better on a lightweight touch enabled device.

Using an ipad is a million times swifter and easier than a laptop. Where tablets lag behind is productivity but even in that they are making strides (office, pro audio apps and soon full Photoshop is coming).

Once again Jobs was right and if he was not die so young we would had basically forced google to follow him. Unfortunately he did die, ipad line kind of slumped a little and android tabs were scrapped for the much more inferior Chromebooks.

A sign of our times. Geeks are great to build things, very bad at picking future direction of things. This is mostly why we sorely miss a Steve Jobs figure in tech. Geeks are happy to misuse technology...
