Sony Xperia XZ3 hands-on review

30 August 2018
Sony has always had its own, rather unique approach to mobile design. Whether you liked the boxier look of old, favour the curves of the new "Ambient Flow" concept or don't really find either appealing, it is hard to ignore one irrefutable accomplishment of the Japanese design team - continuity.

I am glad screen is not Samsung.
Red tones for white and orange tones for red are annoying.

Beautiful Sony Xperia in my opinion.
I haven't been thrilled by a Xperia for a long time and this one appeals me quite a bit.

    A question about the software hands-on :
There is no gesture navigation or Sony didn't activate it by default ?

I just wish Xperia XZ3 and other members of Xperia could make a return to Indonesia soon :/ . There's still some aspects that i quite disagree with XZ3 , but mostly are my expectations , including the (P-)OLED display and curvature edge back and front .

Anonymous, 30 Aug 2018Thank you for finally bringing OLED to your phones! This +... moreMore attractive than XZ2 you mean. Because looking at the competition Samsung and Huawei have been long ahead of Sony when it comes to design.
But I need to give it to Sony for software updates and battery. They are among the best at this.

I don't get it. What are you trying here sony? A phone alike any other for a price above every other. Your Brand is phonewise nothing like it was back then with ericsson. Nokia (HMD Global) found a way back into the market. How? Offering a phone for every need. There's premium phones offering premium features, and low end offering low end specs. Sony phones offer lower specs than any competition for a price way above the competition. And your UI, Camera, Display are not convincing enough to buy into it. If anything, then you should have stayed with 4.6" phones an make then bezelless. People do miss mini-premium phones with modern features, no matter the cost. I wonder why no manufacturer grows into this niche, it's an unoccupied market while the 7"+ category (sorry but that's tablets) grows steadily - saddening.

I may be the only one, but I notice that the screen actually has only little to no color shift when viewed at an angle. I mean usually, it would shift in colors a bit, which is the nature of OLED, so this gives me hope that the screen is from JOLED or Sharp, or basically any other else but LG and Samsung.
This also gives me hope that the screen is RGB in pattern instead of mediocre Diamond PenTile.

Thank you for finally bringing OLED to your phones! This + the new sleeker front design make the XZ3 a much more attractive phone to me.

We expected larger battery, large camera sensor not the same 19 or 23mp but the new 48mp one. On the audio side should had good DAC like the LG.
On the CPU side its the 845 again, when the (5g) 955 will be with us soonand of course far more powerful IPhones.
Sony should forget about phones and focus on Playstation 5.

"The camera relies solely on EIS to keep things steady"
EIS is only for video. It is not possible to stabilize for stills unless it uses burst photography like HDR+ / high shutter speed.

Faizal Firdaus, 30 Aug 2018This should have been announced in MWC. Sony, you're late a... moreThey are not realizing the era of charging a premium for a brand is long gone. They need to be competitive but these launches and re-structuring plus exit from markets doesn't give any hope.

Mr Magma, 30 Aug 2018At this point I'd rather get an S9 plus over this one. Not only S9+, they are just too many alternatives now.

Missing 3.5 mm audio jack on a Sony device hurts. The company who pushed innovation has become a follower of trends! Love Xperia devices but Sony, this won't help much to bring back the glory. Sad they can't do much as well since the mobile division isn't doing good so hardly will get any attention or money for R&D I suppose. HTC, Sony and LG with their bold choices and innovation of the past now like this!

At this point I'd rather get an S9 plus over this one.

This should have been announced in MWC. Sony, you're late as usual.
IFA needs some innovations, at-least some H/W gimmicks to attract more customers.
But....? It's the same cake in slightly different package and a hefty price tag in Poco F1 era.

Wow. From the front, It looks like samsung's galaxy (minus the edge-screen).
After copying htc u11, now sony also copy samsung.
Sony is unable to make a new fresh idea
