Sony Xperia XZ3 hands-on review

30 August 2018
Sony has always had its own, rather unique approach to mobile design. Whether you liked the boxier look of old, favour the curves of the new "Ambient Flow" concept or don't really find either appealing, it is hard to ignore one irrefutable accomplishment of the Japanese design team - continuity.

The front is perfect but the back cover look cheap to me. I prefer boxy old XZ1 back cover.

By nature, OLED will have burnt in. If you use the map a lot or gaming you will see it normally by 6 months time

this looks completely like Note FE in the front. Sony is lagging behind samsung about 2 years.

And everybody in the industry agrees. Displaymate test only the best like the Pixel, iphone, and Samsung. They gonna test the new Sony because it's a good screen. In the past they did some test on HTC, Huawei and Sony.

kakouille, 31 Aug 2018Samsung screens are the best. They are, but the Pentile arrangement can now be replaced as Sony has proven. I still will take a Samsung panel anyday though over LCD

Tann Hauser, 30 Aug 2018Im sorry, it looks completely Galaxy on front now. And comp... moreActually, that graphic inconsistentcy could be fixed by downscaling, not to mention Android Pie isn't exactly doing better than Oreo at being stable. The squeeze feature is one that is for convenience and it's so useful on the U12. OLED with Sony display magic is what many were waiting for, and the long aspect ratio is just becoming the standard, and is useful. But I know these changes aren't for everybody. It's your call. You can try it out and decide for yourself, or you can switch

It's as if there's never something great on Xperia phones.
Take for example, iPhones have more flaws than Xperias, but they barely receive negative feedbacks due to their popularity.

Some of the complaints on Xperias are almost just pure nitpicking, trying to find flaws on an otherwise near perfect device. Nobody rages about the same 2 year old 12MP 1/2.55" camera of the S9, but the recently changed Loop Surface was criticized already in less than a year.
                            Fair play I would say.

Last year when the XZ Premium came out, most of the negatives are pointing out to the large bezels. Sony didn't do bezel less design until this year, so it takes them a year to do the change.
They didn't include a 3.5mm jack this year, but maybe next year they will

Tann Hauser, 30 Aug 2018Well, thats about for me.... Farewell Sony, itd been a ple... moreAt this point, it's already quite difficult to come up with something that can differentiate from the crowd.
Why I'd stay with Sony is because of their excellent software and support, imaging capabilities, and their legacy of high quality long-lasting products.

The RGB Polymer OLED of this XZ3 lasts very long despite the RGB matrix, and as clearly seen in the pictures, there is very little to no color shift of the screen even at the most extreme of angles.

They did took time to get an OLED screen, but the end result was well worth it for such a quality display.
And who made a much better curved display again?? Oh yeah, Sony uses the edges for useful shortcuts and functions other than just the generic edge swiping.

SONY can make a great phone but never a stand out success. They always pair a large screen with a poor processor and camera or a small screen with a good camera and CPU. It's the opposite of everyone else.
