Apple iPhone XR review

23 October 2018
Now updated with full test findings. The iPhone XR is the third iPhone to be launched this year, after the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. While the two iPhone XS models are nearly identical save for the size, the iPhone XR is a significant departure for the iPhone X series and possibly a new chapter going forward.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2018Just looked it up for YouTube, my iPhone 7 can display 1080... moreSo tell me, how can a display with a resolution of 750x1334 play a video at a native resolution higher than the hardware is capable of? Which, in this case, you say is 1080p (1920x1080)? That must be one super special iPhone 7!! I'd hold onto it since it's definitely the ONLY one capable of playing a native FHD video, and therefore defies the laws of physics! Wow!

Don't be a fanboy, please. That's like me saying that I can watch native 4K YouTube videos (3840x2160) on my OnePlus 5 (1920x1080). Do you see the issue here? Upscaling/Downscaling is NOT native resolution, no matter how good you think it looks.

So, YOU need to "stop it".

You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are NOT entitled to you own facts.
        :-)

"Our recommendation would be to invest in the 12W iPad charger, which isn't too expensive but dramatically increases the charging times".

Did you mean _reduces_ the charging times? Or increases the charging _rate_ :)

Fandroids are always arguing „the same grid of icons since 2007“ yet I wonder: What‘s different with Android? And don‘t Tell me your „you can arrange the icons where you want them to be“ that was also possible with the first iPhone from 2007. if we are honest, nobody uses the widgets on his android, except for a huge ass clock upfront, but that’s kinda unnecessary because you already have a clock in the status bar. Most Widgets are outdated and unoptimizable as well.

I waited for this one. I can't trust Apple to make a quality device after the Xr since they can't even get the pwm frequency on their OLED displays higher than 240Hz. The Xs and Xs Max are junk phones that will ruin your eyesight with prolonged use.

Even Lenovo got their act together by getting rid of the pwm on their ThinkPads. Come on Apple, you need to do better.

                      Until then, it's the Xr.

                              I did my research:
                              Samsung SIII (2012) - 720p screen
                              iPhone 5c (2013) - 640 x 1136 or 640p screen

Aside being ugly to my eyes, i can't find any reason for buy a phone that give me less features that my Android phone, to let me do less things with it and the single thing that it can do better is score a bit more in a synthetic benchmark. I'm happy saving money and keeping in the Android side.

"As with all new iPhones sold going forward, the iPhone XR does not come with the Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. You do get the standard EarPods, which sound fairly decent and have audio controls built-in, but their fixed design means they don't fit everyone. At this point, Apple really just wants you to get wireless headphones, which isn't such a bad idea, except we'd still like to have the option to use wired headphones, even if with an adapter."

Main reason why iPhone XR should have the 3.5mm jack where it belongs in order to conduct an audio test. Typical (Cr)Apple$$. Look at *cough Sams**g *cough Galaxy A9 (2018) at roughly the same price as iPhone XR which has an all-rounded package.

I know it may be the same as the previous iPhone XS Max Cons, but let me add what GSMArena is missing from this review.

                                      Cons
                                      -Recycled design
-Charging is slow with the provided charger
-It's iOS and it has a ton of restrictions, especially customization-wise
-The most expensive smartphone with absurdly costly storage upgrades
-(Cr)Apple, please put the camera settings in the camera where they belong already!
-No 3.5mm jack since iPhone 7, now since iPhone XS / XS Max / XR, we need to pay for a $$ dongle, come on! PUT the 3.5mm jack where it belongs like iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and below for convenience, practicality and logical sake!
-No microsd slot since Original iPhone 2G, come on! It's 2018 already! It's been MORE THAN 10 years and you couldn't bother including it at least on proper dual-SIM models like a hybrid slot for example! Everyone should have CHOICES where they want to store! NOT everyone wants to store data in a cloud!
-No fast charger in the box, come on! It's 2018 already! Yet we have to "donate" $$ to get fast charger. Even your closest rival, *cough* Sams*** *cough* has one in the box!
-FUGLY NOTCH since iPhone X. Its hideous! Just like the upcoming Pixel 3 XL! That blocks the full-screen experience when playing games / watching videos etc.
-No home button since iPhone X. How is that going to be easy for a first time iPhone buyer? Using gestures?? What if the screen gets cracked at the bottom, you can't go back to the home screen & you're pretty much f****d.
-No Touch ID since iPhone X. (Cr)Apple, at least implement it in the power button! Not EVERYONE wants to use Face ID because of security, privacy reasons!

There, editor, fixed it for you.
