Apple iPhone XR review

23 October 2018
Now updated with full test findings. The iPhone XR is the third iPhone to be launched this year, after the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. While the two iPhone XS models are nearly identical save for the size, the iPhone XR is a significant departure for the iPhone X series and possibly a new chapter going forward.

I know it may be the same as the previous iPhone XS Max Cons, but let me add what GSMArena is missing from this review.

Cons
-Recycled design
-Charging is slow with the provided charger
-It's iOS and it has a ton of restrictions, especially customization-wise
-The most expensive smartphone with absurdly costly storage upgrades
-(Cr)Apple, please put the camera settings in the camera where they belong already!
-No 3.5mm jack since iPhone 7, now since iPhone XS / XS Max / XR, we need to pay for a $$ dongle, come on! PUT the 3.5mm jack where it belongs like iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and below for convenience, practicality and logical sake!
-No microsd slot since Original iPhone 2G, come on! It's 2018 already! It's been MORE THAN 10 years and you couldn't bother including it at least on proper dual-SIM models like a hybrid slot for example! Everyone should have CHOICES where they want to store! NOT everyone wants to store data in a cloud!
-No fast charger in the box, come on! It's 2018 already! Yet we have to "donate" $$ to get fast charger. Even your closest rival, *cough* Sams*** *cough* has one in the box!
-FUGLY NOTCH since iPhone X. Its hideous! Just like the upcoming Pixel 3 XL! That blocks the full-screen experience when playing games / watching videos etc.
-No home button since iPhone X. How is that going to be easy for a first time iPhone buyer? Using gestures?? What if the screen gets cracked at the bottom, you can't go back to the home screen & you're pretty much f****d.
-No Touch ID since iPhone X. (Cr)Apple, at least implement it in the power button! Not EVERYONE wants to use Face ID because of security, privacy reasons!

There, editor, fixed it for you.

AnonD-632062, 23 Oct 2018As expected, Apple iPhone XR crushes the benchmarks. The Ap... moreOf course, we are not forgetting the audio test like some recent jackless iPhones reviews because it doesn't come with a headphone jack as STANDARD.

By the way, The Verge has done an extensive review of the iPhone XR.

If you are not going to make the full review, it is better not to publish it. It is a waste of time for the readers. I'd rather prefer waiting for the full review than reading any Youtuber's review.

Nicolas F, 23 Oct 2018Your comment is pointless. Such type of reviews should not ... moreAgreed. Such reviews are pointless because you can't compare it with other phones. Not sure why GSMArena keeps pushing out such useless reviews.

But there is a Pocophone that does 155% of what the more expensive iPhone XS does but at 28% of the cost.

"...XR is the most interesting iPhone this year..." comically ironic quote though because this review is the least interesting of this year iPhones reviews.

For all of Apple's minimalistic aspirations, they cannot get rid of their camera bump.

But then again if you care about saving money, why getting an iPhone at all? This is like going to a fancy restaurant so everyone sees you there but having everyone hear you ordering the cheapest meal

it's really amazing that in the review, nowhere in the Display page does it say the fact that you can only watch videos in 720P resolution.....yes they mention the exact screen resolution, and how great the screen is. But I think that this review is bias.

                                This comment put me off:
"As for that missing 5%, the display isn't quite as nice as the iPhone XS's. It's not quite as water-resistant as the iPhone XS. And the missing second camera means no more 2x optical zoom. We also missed not having 3D touch on this phone."
All this combined only to missing 5%? Then what makes up the 95% of the phone?? Just the fast processor?

Where are the detailed numbers of the display related to color accuracy and sunlight legibility ?

this phone's price should have been in OP6's price range max. better get iphone 7 or 8, there's no enough difference to justify its price over previous iphones...

Understand that they are not allowed to confront this phone with Android flagships, about all the cheaper ones... The only thing they must do is grab the envelop with a bunch of green papers inside and tell the world how wonderful this phone is, how the cheaper components and materials are better than the more premium, how the amazing is the bugs free Apple ecosystem, etc.

Add a little to the price and you can have the Mate 20. -,-
