Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 hands-on review

Until web content can be beamed directly into our brains, we’ll need screens – the bigger, the better. The 6.39” screen of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is certainly pretty big, almost as big as the original. But size isn’t the only thing that makes it “good”.

My 6.4" phone with 16:9 aspect is 145mm, so a move to 19.5:9 makes sense to be significantly taller, and more slender in width. My display is more than 80mm in width, that's loads more than Mix 3 including bezels.

Oppo find X who also has similar screen size and aspect ratio is 156.7mm tall.

    Fantastic photos. My actual Xiaomi Mi8 takes better pictures than Samsung Galaxy S9+, but this is even better!

      Bigger battery requires more space, larger body ( more materials are used then)

      With this slide design, it gets harder because the second part would end up too thick.

          I'm just wondering what are the real phone dimensions. Is 157mm height in closed state or when slid out? Because 157mm for 6.4 inch display seems to me too much considering these small bezels.

I'm not sure if Vivo somehow managed to patent the pop-up since so many is now using this same approach as Xiaomi and not like Vivo when the Vivo solution appears to be the better one.

            I think one reason for the AMOLED is the small battery. It won't help in a major way, but more than nothing. At this size and resolution, IPS would be preferred had the battery been bigger (sufficent). Luckily this 6.39" isn't 16:9 aspect, nor even 18:9, but 19.5:9 so I guess it's close to my "no bigger than 6 inch" for FHD AMOLED requirement for non-VR use - due to the fact that the extra size is in height. It has roughly the same width as some 18:9 aspect 6 inchers and is significantly slimmer than 6 inchers in 16:9.

              alternative to notch:

              - bar (like samsung)
              - pop up camera (oppo, vivo)
              - slider (xiaomi mi mix3)
              - camera hole only
              - selfie on back (meizu)
              - rotating/swivel camera (oppo n1)
              - front camera on bottom (sharp aquos crystal)

              what else?

                Wow. Love the phone. The best flagship undoubtedly. Have used Mix2 n loved it except for the front cam.

                  Why won´t the manufacturers remove the unneeded selfie camera. No notch, no sliding mechanism. Remove selfie camera and get 100% screen to body ratio.

                          Cool phone. I welcome the bezelless.

                          The 1080p amoled displays must be a problem over 6 inch because of their lack of sharpness compared to lcd. I'd rather have an LCD screen that doesn't turn yellowish after a year or two.

                          The slider mechanism must take a lot of space that could have otherwise been used by a battery. That's my second big issue with this design.

                          I'd rather sacrifice the selfie camera, and use the incresingly advanced array of cameras in the back to take a selfie without viewfinder, then later crop the picture as I see fit. The superior combined resolution and wide lens on the back must be enough to crop a good enough selfie out even if you take pictures in really bad angles.

                            The sliding still have many challenge, vivo slide sometimes stuck with dust and liquid and very fragile to crack/bend if suddenly pop up inside the pocket

For your info this design has been fly over internet quite long ago as one of Mix 2 design.. Vivo/Oppo just come out a year after several Mix 2 design fly over internet.. THIS IS THE FACT..

                                      Good Hardware but crappy UI, the gallery app & the camera app are the worst in the world. I am talking about all MI & redmi phones.
