Xiaomi Mi A2 long-term review

19 November 2018
Second time’s the charm, right? That’s certainly what Xiaomi would have you believe. The second coming of its Android One line is here, but is it any good? You still might not be very used to the concept of pairing Xiaomi hardware with unadulterated Google software - after all, the company’s MIUI is one of the heaviest Android skins you can find. But there’s no trace of that in the Mi A2, and this device is definitely as intriguing as its predecessor, which was Xiaomi’s debut album in the Android One collection.

Most of Xiaomi LCD screens look washed out and are generally terrible.

Daym that is such a great review. Top my hat off for you guys. I hope GSMArena team can provide more "long-term review" on a mid-range smartphone. Perhaps try pocofone for the next review eh?

I've been looking to get a new phone for a while but for me the biggest negative point is lack of a 3.5 mm jack in A2. So much so that i'm considering to get a Nokia 6.1 plus instead which is similarly priced and comes with SD 636 instead of SD 660 (A2).

I have the Pocophone and a Redmi Note 5. I've installed custom Pie ROMs and the Google Camera mod on both. That way, I get phones with a large battery and perfect software.

With OnePlus ditching the RGB notification LED in the OP6T, I think there's only Samsung, Sony and HTC (orange/green only) that include them.

This phone should have RGB (color) LED notification LED instead of white. Not a big deal for some, but a big deal for me and some of us.

I wanna see note 9 long term review please

No NFC is a plus, one less security flaw to worry about; and nobody uses a phone without a protective case (why would you). So, basically the only issue is the rounded screen - which is, incidentally, why I'm not getting any such phones.

A huge plus is vanilla Android and Xiaomi's prices are unbeatable: they make it a point to limit their profits, purposefully. That's enough for me to only look at Xiaomi devices... Not being greedy is great, but I'm also in favor of not getting ripped off. :)

                                  Ah, come on!
                                  No comparisons to other devices?!?

Especially the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro/AI, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Mi 8 Lite, Mi 8 SE, and the Xiaomi PocoPhone.

People read these long-reviews to know the device intimately/properly, otherwise, anybody can read a Spec Sheet which doesn't give the full picture.
