Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite review

26 November 2018
With the Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi marked the completion of the Mi 8 lineup, or so it seems. The company now has two premium flagship models in the Mi 8 family - the Mi 8 and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition along with two mid-rangers - the Mi 8 SE and the Mi 8 Lite, with the last one being the subject of this review.

Im using this phone and I love it. SD660, tye C, Gorilla Glass 5, very good camera, absolutely low priced compared to other sd660 phones and equivalent, and a looker too. I can play 5hrs of straight pubg at high realistic and AA enabled with 65% brightness from 85% to 19% battery. lol a normal user cant consume that many hours a day doing just games. battery is not an issue with this one. heating is not an issue. it depends on the ambient temp of your place. if youre in a hot area, of course it heats up. worthy buy this one.

mi 8 se has different 4g bands. it is not comparable. the author should have mentioned it.

also mi a2 lacks band 28. I need it here in Argentina.

How can GSMARENA insert a note of the Mi 8 Lite of 3.5?

A lower overall rating than the Xiaomi Redmi S2 (Y2) which is 3.8?

There is something wrong, see the note of Redmi S2 (Y2) which is a device well inferior to the Mi 8 Lite and you gave a bigger general note for him: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_s2_y2-review-1781. php

This general note of 3.5 does not correspond to the Mi 8 Lite device, definitely.

For those asking whether to by MI8 lite or Honor 8X, see following comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5SuDI7h_9A (start 4:40).
I'ts in Czech language, but you don't have to understand to get the photo (video) testing part. 8X has better design and larger battery, but MI 8 convincingly edges it's rival with camera performance. In another video the guy says, that MI and maybe even 8X cameras perform better than Samsung tripple A7 and quadruple A9 cams (and I'm not surprised at all).

Mi Note 3's back camera setup has OIS enabled main camera and telephoto lens, but the software side is lacking behind these AI powered new phones (starting from Redmi Note 5 India). With the same SoC powering the phone, in theory if the camera software is brought to the same level, Mi 8 Lite will be pushed behind except perhaps in selfies (just due to that higher resolution). But even with "only" 16MP, Google Camera can bring the best out of the front facing camera that MIUI camera can only dream of.

Sorry but my typing is awful. So I go on.... Somebody thinks like we don't read, think or that we are naive.
I decided to buy the specific device after a visit at a big international store in Greece, which means I could physically feel each and everyone of these new devices eg. Huawei, Nokia, Xiaomi, Honor, Samsung etc. Hence I had an opinion which combined to your reviews I thought it would help. So I made my decision to buy it.
I thing that the review is not 100% true in terms of not providing a convincing reason not to prefer it against others in this tier. Also the omissions made by Xiaomi I this case are a conscious choice that proves he trend. Those do not as well commit a reason not to prefer it.
Last but not least, I believe that marketing leads and controls everything especially sites that are depending on revenues from promotions of ll kinds of electronic goods. I don't want to mean anything but the review is -in my humble opinion - unfair and not reflecting the truth. I respect the effort that the site is putting in order to assit people in purchasing the right item.
Sorry if I was accute but had no intention to offend anybody.

                          Good evening.
This is my first comment however it will not be quite soft.
I have read a ton of reviews hoping to get the maximum in terms of help in order to decide what to buy.
I didn t wait for the Mi 8 lite review to come out and I ordered it, actually one day before.
Having read the review though it seems like somebody thinks webare

It's an okay phone overall. Definitely recommended for my friend's obsession on Xiaomi phones.

By looking this phone battery capacity is good.
Camara is good. Best thing is that it is in mid reng.
And i think u have to provide "type c" charging.

I love your reviews and take them into account more than any other...but...couldn't you wait for a sunny day to do the camera tests? Photos and videos look awful, and it can discourage potential buyers...

I have a Redmi Note 6 Pro, with similar cameras, although it uses Samsung S5K2L7 sensor and the Mi 8 Lite a Sony IMX363 Exmor RS sensor (which in theory should be better) and my RN6P takes excellent photographs, as you have verified yourselves in the review that you did to that model...So many difference of cameras find between Mi 8 Lite and RN6P? thank you for allowing the opinion, I appreciate very much your work.

Realme 1 and realme 2 Pro almost killed xiaomi budget series in india..

Xiaomi should launch budget devices with stock android..

And upper Midrange devices (poco) with super amoled display and premium design.

Anonymous, 27 Nov 2018How can you call this "lite" when it is as huge as the OneP... more"Lite" refers to being a "lower tier" version of the standard model.
Smaller devices can be called "Compact" (Sony) or "Mini" (Apple).
