Sony Xperia 1, 10 Plus, 10, L3 hands-on review

25 February 2019
Sony's fresh new lineup can be best described as different and exciting. First off, we have the Xperia 1, intended as a continuation of Sony's "Premium" line, rather than the flagship "XZ" one. Then there are the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus, which are shaping up as successors to the popular "XA" lineup. Last and probably least, there is the new Xperia L3 entry-level model.

Funny to see haters complain about the size of the phones.

Z Ultra was not bashed this way. That was way bigger.

Nice 3K 21:9 display, but they shouldn't have flexed with their 40+ and 50+ MP cameras if this only uses a 12MP one.

      Hoping for a 1 Premium with a 58MP camera and a 4K 21:9 display.
I wanted the 1 to be my next phone, but the camera is really a huge letdown.
I thought we got over the 12MP trend.

Is it safe to say that sony had already abandoned the compact line?

Since XZ Premium all flagships can record 4K until memory goes full or battery goes zero. And this when the 4K vids have 53Mbps which has more impact on hardware.

Now explain me why the other brands puts limits up to 10 min even recording at lower bitrates ( less than 48Mbps) ....

yeah those displays and aspect ratios are very lovely until you have to put the phone in your pocket. but on the bright side, if you drop it into a toilet, it won't go past the u-bend

Where is the 1compact from the XZ4compact leaks ?!

Tobias, 27 Feb 2019Such a shame that it doesn't have wireless charging -.- ... morebattery is rather small this i agree with u. but 3330 is 100 mah more than 3230 on XZP. XZP has 3840x2160 = 8294400 pixels and xperia has 3840x1644 = 6312960 pixels. That is 1981440 more pixels in XZP. XZP is using LCD display which still consumes energy when the pixel is dark, so although it switch to full hp when viewing normal contents, it still consumes battery but maybe not as much as other color than black. However, LED display only lit those non-black color pixel when needed. Their black color equals turning off that LED pixel. So, if you have a dark theme on, LED saves more energy than LCD. LED also able to goes brighter than LCD so when viewing under sun, probably you need less power in LED to provide the same brightness as LCD. Make sure to get a less reflective screen protector if you want to saves more battery because a reflective screen protector needs higher brightness to see the content clearly. If XZP scores 72h on the endurance, probably xperia 1 can score above 80h.

For wireless charge, I would say if it comes with the feature then it is a bonus, but I would not use it even once because wireless charging is very inefficient and hurts the battery alot. Unless you dont mind your battery to die so soon

no need for wireless charging when you have Type-C......
no need for 3.5mm jack coz you will get much powerful sound and bass with usb connection....

all i need to ask is : what's the point of this review without the camera samples?

That with a tiny bit larger battery would make this phone a beast.

Does the Xperia 1 not have a 3.5mm jack while the lower-end models do? It this serious? I was waiting a few years to finally upgrade to Sony's new flagship, but now I have to look elsewhere...

Anonymous, 27 Feb 2019" It's a material that absolutely has no compromises on a c... moreIf you're using a phone with cheap plastic composites than it is true but if you are using phone like XZ2 Compact which has proper plastic back then there is no scratching, no bending, no nothig. Aluminum frame is first to go, it chips too easy, coating comes off etc. My plastic back has no single scratch and i do not use any case on it.

And when it comes to heat aluminum chassis is not a cooling solution nor it should be. If a phone has heating issues it has nothing to do with the choice of plastic for housings material.

And plastic could also look and feel metallic if done right.
