Not really, Google's HDR+ works in the same way as Night Sight and exists since at least 2013. The difference is that HDR+ only gives you a pseudo exposure of up to ≈0.8 or 1s , not multiple seconds.

I wonder what would be the result if the reviewer had used the Mi 9 Explorer edition which uses 1.5 aperture compared to regular Mi 9 with f/1.8

I prefer a place like DXO mark to get a more professional opinion on cameras.
And yes the p30 is now in top stop for dxo mark. Though selfie came still goes to the S10+.
I think in general the top 5 cameras on dxo are going to be fine for anyone.

If Samsung stopped relying on their legacy, and actually put some effort into their camera capabilities, Huawei wouldn’t stand a chance. Samsung does just enough to be considered a top tier producer. When they started switching things up with the Note series, and the S6 they finally beat Apple at their own game. IMO, Samsung is still the best. Apple is a close second, and only because their handset reception sucks.

People who are running to their brands like pixel and Samsung, just because you can't stomach that Huawei a Chinese company has brought their A game on smartphone photography should for once accept the bitter truth! Whether you like it or not P30 pro is the ultimate smartphone camera king because it shines almost in all areas where others can't keep up, it's the most versatile smartphone camera. Can a pixel and other phones do 5x lossless zoom?? can a pixel do best ultrawide shots?? That's what we call versatility of a camera, every flagship smartphone nowadays cannot disappoint in still photography but what separates the best from the rest is the versatility of the camera. If you even check MKBHD channel who is a pixel fan did a blind test and the Mate 20pro came on top and he admitted Mate20 pro is the king, so you can just imagine what a P30pro can do. Sometimes if you are mature enough always appreciate if a product is good despite your prefered brand, and a gain the P30pro doesn't only shine on camera it's actually an all rounder phone. It has good Amoled screen, good performance and the battery endurance is marvelous and still someone wants to hate! Guys sometimes lets be realistic.

Optical stabilization only for video is a joke. Footage is useless unless you stay still.
Even a very slow walking is enough to make video look recorded by someone with Parkinson ....

Thing is, when Pixel & P30 Pro image compared, its a 1 main camera sensor vs 1 main camera sensor used, P30 doesnt even use the other sensors as its for different purpose, the purpose where Pixel doesnt have an answer. (5x optical, 10x hybrid & 50x digital zoom, ultra wide angle, super macro).
Sigh. People need to stop bragging about Pixel being better as its using only 1 camera.

Night sight is unbeatable, everything is miles behind. I was able to install the Google Cam APK on my Mi 8 (with OIS, something Mi 9 doesn't have) and night photos are suberb!
It so clear how night photos on Mi8 are better than Mi9, that was the biggest miss from Xiaomi on this new phone. Chipset aside, performance between S845 vs S855 is meaningful, but honestly, S845 already run everything well and smooth...so at this point, for me what matter on a smartphone today is the camera...and Mi8 has one of the best with a fraction of the price compared to those mainstream ones like Galaxy, Pixel, Iphone and Huawei.
