5 megapixel face-off: Vox populi

05 December 2007
It’s been a while since our last cameraphone shootout and you know how much we love them. With all those 5 megapixel cameraphones around, our hands were just itching to make a grand 5 megapixel face-off with as many of the current 5 megapixel cameraphones as possible. The stars in this episode of our Shootout series...

Also I-mobile is best 5MP and sharp S904 is best 3.2MP cam (its more 5mp) phone but still it can't replace my 8MP Cannon digital Camera if you compare this phone to N95 8GB non of them has HSPDA, VGA video recording, Symbian OS, N-gage games, good music player, TV-out, 3D graphic hardware accelerator, WLAN, real internet experience, 8GB memory, youtube videos, etc

No matter GSMARENA whatever says SE fan never going to accept that K850i is worst camera phone for sure SHARP S903 isBEST CAM Phone but you really know difference in CCD and CMOS Technology (there is now no need to go to google and search for CCD technology) i know you don't For sure N95 8GB is best of all may it is bit of saturated but it has best contrast and detail of all its just becoz of Toshiba CMOS sensor used which is larger in size the flaw is in the image processing algorithm used by Nokia do you think Nokia guys dont know about saturated colours the thing why they dont improve this because people love pic with saturated colour they also know that a cam phone cannot replace stand alone camera however very few people care about originality the pic should be clear and comfortable to eyes also just crop the photos taken by N95 8GB and K850i you will come to know which one has better detail

regardless of what any of you say....it's all meaningless, this is a democracy....umm unless you havent noticed 4 people voted for the k850.. So once again, regardless of your own experience, the general consensus on a very well respected, popular, and accurate GSM site is directly contradictory to the common misception that the k850 is the better of the four....GET OVER IT AND STOP BEING SORE LOSERS!

NO!! the K850 is still better than 3 phones upside!!

          1. N95 8Gb. carl zeiss is a fake on colour reproduction. u can see ur self... just take a snap with a N95 8Gb an compare with K850. u'll see the truth, who is the best !! the K850 is still the best camera phone with natural colour reproduction. remember... carl zeiss is fake on colour reproduction!!

          2. LG Viewty is the new player of camera phone! they never used the hardware n software solution for the best photo!!

          3. Samsung G600. i have tried taking some photo with this brand. and what i see is not what i get!! the color get blured! even if i use the correct setting in this phone.... so, im get stressed with this phone. the best from samsung is just slider, the screen quality, and external speaker!! remember that....

          4. K850 ----> it's really awsome camera phone today!!! really and get closer the phone body to digital camera... rights? but, the weakness of this phone from camera form factor is the colour in the sky. if you snap the sky, you'll get the unfocus colour of the sky. and some the blurry colour from sand of brown object...

that is all i want to share with u all.... and if you want the best camera phone today, buy the i mobile 902. that was soooo really digital camera!! 5 megapixel with CCD sensor!! YES... CCD!! and it can interpolate to 8 megapixel without compress or downing the photo quality!!

so... if gsm arena wants to review who is the winner from camera phone which have 5 megapixel, the i mobile 902 is the answer!!

No use for all of us debating this and that... That is a result that we CHOOSE... regardless it is true or not, that is the fact... just accept it whether you like it or not...

Now it is a homework for Nokia, LG, Samsung and SE to improve their product... Hopefully later GSM Arena will have a similar contest for them and all of us will be a judge...

This result will not be last forever so stop all the fight...

i'm sorry but feel free to experiment, i dont understand how the n95 tops the list. now i have 3 sony ericssons and one nokia n95. now during a school project trip i was too ars*d to write anything so i decided to use my k800 (not k850) to take pictures of text (written, printed and digital) the results were impressive. when i got home I could view all the text easily. I have had the n95 for over 4 months and I still cant take any close-up images. I comes out blurry. i upgraded the firmware. cleaned the lens, extended the resolution to 5MP and yet i still cant see pictures of text clearly. -so now i need to know how an n95 can top the list when an older model (k800 3.5MP) performs better than 'the all powerfull' 5MP n95. or did i do something wrong.

                        Few comments. Summarising some others

Well N7.J9 (5/12) we got the N95 (C) right but not the others
I said that the N95 was best, but as (some) others have said - which is what Nokia does - pics are 'processed'. Especially see the macro shot.
I still think the 850 was 2nd best as it has more natural hues. "Phoneix" provided a link of 2 shots N95/SE850. The SE looks both clearer & more natural colour to me.

This link shows N95, SE850, LG KU990 & Samsung G600 & G800. The G800 on close-up looks very odd, the 600 more natural, whilst the 850 has good definitiion and natural colour but nowhere as crisp looking shot as the N95 - same as in the GSMArena comparison.
                        http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/blog/?p=834

                        Some general observations:
1st: It would have been far more useful (and informative) if a Nikon and Canon, or even Sony camera shots were used as a benchmark. When u see the dialaphone pics, it is very difficult to see which is the most natural one -- due to weather, time of day etc. Same with this 'shoot-out'

2nd: All the shots could be better judged if enlarged, and as someone else said - regarding the LG but relevant to all - if manual adjustments were used, each phone would be improved, and so the rankings may be changed. Still when one wants a 'snap' it is taken in haste with all settings on auto.
We should still remember: these are still primarily phones.

3rd: How about getting hold of the Samsung B600 as a contender. This is a 10 mpx - yes that's right, TEN MEGApixels. Samsung had a 5mpx in 2004. A 7 mpx (model 770?) in 2005 & now a 10. So far it appears to only be available in Korea - as were the others - but someone at Samsung in Oz said to call back in New Year. Pixels are not the only factor in photo quality, but it is a big start.

4th. N95 - even N95-3 is a slow camera. It has no manual settings, no Xenon flash - poor at night, and no optical zoom.
N82 has Xenon flash, but has dinky keys, poor loudness volume and poor music player quality - according to GSM's review. Why can't these manufacture's retain the good quality features, and upgrade the poorer ones? Nokia goes to all the effort to include a Zeiss quality lens, then has no manual settings, or Xenon flash. That is stupid.
The SE850 has more natural colour and shoots fast, but also has dinky keys.
The G600 may be the best trade-off; or continue to wait. B-600?
                        Cheers all.

but whether it is natural in colour?

By the way is it necessary to give opinion on everything? I think everyone should talk on the relevant subject and not to hit or point on any of the brands. All are aware of the fact that there's a lot of room of improvement in every product. Same is called the Evolution. Righ now companies are broadening the products portfolio and enriching them with more n more feature. A time will come when each of the manufacturer will be focusing on standardising their products to offer the qualitative stuff. This shall be a stability phase. Today we see addition of more and more Mega Pixels but still we dont find their quality up to the minimal level of the good digital cams. Just snap with merely a 1 MP Digital Camera of SE Cybershot or Olympus or NIKON and compare it with 5MP of today' top class camera phone. You will find one hell of difference between the two. So please stop fighting but just keep on watching.............what is going on........!!!! Sorry if someone feels bored of my comments but,,,,,,,,

                                Do not worry SE fans,
this is the beginning of 5mp camera phones,
Nokia has N95, N95 8g, and N82. And SE has only k850. The next SE 5mp phones will definitely be the best camera phones.

( we can see how the camera in Nokia N82 is better than in N95 because it is the third 5mp camera phone and Nokia company tried to avoid some of the camera problems in N95 ).

How funny it is to see so many people trying to defend their Sony Ericssons! It's only an experiment, but it's good to see some simple impartial testing after all this time.

...and it's also interesting to see some people complain how the pictures were 'only' taken in automatic modes. Everyone knows you can change settings to create different (or better) effects but the test used established which phone was better in a generic standard mode. After all, this is the mode that MOST people will use. I myself am a Phogography Degree student and even I use my phone's automatic mode 90% of the time.

It seems some people are never happy!

imobile 902 cam all the way...its time Nokia check up on their interface. should a learn a thing or two from SE, esp the Shortcut/Events key.
n SE should learn two include more features like Nokias, rather than branding it Cybershot or Walkman.
I wonder who'll come up with a dream phone, sumthin like iPhone's interface n screen, a 6mp ccd cam with optical zoom, 32gb flash, 256mb ram, fast proccy, SE's intuitiveness n video led light, nokia 5310's music controls, k850i's cam controls, n82's xenon flash, n81's gaming keys, etc etc...
