Not a good camera for nighttime, no wireless charging, lack of IP rating, AMOLED isn't something that's in this phone, the sound speaker won't be accurate or audiophile friendly despite the EQ controller, and 8K resolution won't happen.

As this is a poor LCD, does it have any ghosting? What's the response and refresh rates?

Notsure, 31 May 2019I've seen the maximum brightness update on gsmarena, but th... moreThe contrast ratio is calculated by (white cd/m^2) / (black cd/m^2) at 100% brightness. You can see that the in the table, the contrast ratio at max auto brightness is (455 cd/m^2) / (0.399 cd/m^2) = 1140.35.

Since GSMArena has now been able to achieve 600 nits at max auto, take the new number and divide it by the same black brightness. The new contrast ratio at max auto brightness is (600 cd/m^2) / (0.399 cd/m^2) = 1503.76.

Notsure, 30 May 2019Why isn't it 600 nits everywhere? I hope it isn't the Asus ... moreThis industry loves buzz words that don't mean anything, seriously doubt you can see any difference in real life, most disappointing is battery life Lenovo p2 with sd625 have almost 50% more endurance

viano, 30 May 2019... and here we have the explanation of the questionable ... moreWhy isn't it 600 nits everywhere? I hope it isn't the Asus auto-dimming "feature" that can't be disabled on some of their phones and dims the screen randomly in some of the apps. A bug like this, unaddressed like on other models, would be a fiasco.

Also, now there's the problem of contrast that remains. 1200 isn't a disaster, but not among the best by any means, 1500-1600 and even 1700 can be seen on some of the best. I've got a 4 year old Moto X Play midranger with 1500, too. So, I'm not that happy about 1200.

PS: "So apparently brightness control is not consistent from app to app and you are unlikely to get the advertised max brightness level in all apps."
Ok, so there we have it, pure disaster, a good phone killed by garbage software. Software nowadays comes like an avalanche of sewage, it's 90% bugs, 10% good software. There's no respect for the customer in this business and all dimwits produce "software".

So happy that this has an IPS LCD display. Tired of seeing overrated oleds being fed to plebs everywhere! At least people, who want a good "no BS" screen, have a flagship level phone to pick.

                            * No burn-in issues (yep, still a problem that comes within a year). Use your phone as you want without stressing about brightness, screen-on time etc.
                            * No PWM dimming which hurts eyes and even cause headaches in some, like me. Only now Xiaomi and Oneplus is trying to give DC Dimming option in Oleds that has to raise the bar of the panel quality as a sloppy panel will show imperfections in lower voltage.
                            * Better colour accuracy (punchy and bright is not realistic). There is a good reason why all professional photographers and graphics designers are using IPS.
                            * Sharper image. Almost all OLEDs use Pentile technology which is not as clear and sharp and the true resolution ends up lower than stated.

                            Thank you ASUS!

Oled fanboys, please just run to Samsung/Oneplus and everyone else that has your fav. oled screens. :)

                                    ... and here we have
the explanation of the questionable brightness measurement results:

                                    -- Update, May 29:
We dug further into our brightness testing, and came to some peculiar findings. In addition to our usual routine that's based on an industry-standard software/hardware combination, we did a couple of low-fi tests as well. Opening a pure white image in Chrome got us the promised 600nits, precisely. Viewing the same image in the Gallery app we got 545nits, which is also about what we measured on a blank white area in the settings menu. --

So the display is a similar top-Q LCD, as in ZF 5z!

Anonymous, 30 May 2019Sure why not an IP rating as well ? Because of the rotating camera they won't be able to get it IP certified.
