Shui8, 29 Feb 2020Exactly. People should be aware of it, & stop blindly s... moreIt's also interesting to see how company size or popularity heavily affects whether their method of advertising is acceptable or not for many people. Using DSLR shots for feature explanation is perfectly fine for less popular phone vendors like HTC and LG but suddenly becomes huge problem when it comes to larger ones, say Samsung. Now, I know some people will say this is a whataboutism, but this is exactly and all about whataboutism - it doesn't make sense that one company is subjected to harsher criticism than others simply because it's making more profit. That's just so unfair IMO.

Usually, marketing department are separate from the other department, so as long the ad are capturing crowd, means money maker later on, they'll just ignore about it.

So what's the point of creating the false hype and bragging abot high pixel count if the photos have same look as the previous generation.typical crapsung

You should compare the 5x zoom. 4x is óptical with the ultra. 5x is optical with the p30 pro. Apples to apples please

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2020Note 10 and S20 ultra don't use the same Ultrawide camera.
... moreActually your point makes my point stronger.
In these early reviews S20 ultra's wide angle perform worse than note 10.

I am saying ... moreNote 10 and S20 ultra don't use the same Ultrawide camera.
The Ultrawide camera is the main sensor either from the Galaxy S7, S8 or S9 series.
All three cameras : Main, telephoto, Ultrawide have sensors used on flagships from previous years.

Nick Tagataka, 28 Feb 2020I mean, I could easily deduce all the disadvantages Nonacel... moreIt's no surprise that nonacell will have both advantages and disadvantages compared to quad bayer just like quad bayer has both advantages and disadvantages compared to normal bayer sensor.
So, overall which one is better between nonacell and quad bayer we can tell after the release.
Previously some youtubers used to mention it and didn't do camera review until they get the retail unit. But ALAS ! Youtubers have become more greedy and they are doing it early to get more views.
I guess DxOMARK is doing the right thing. They are waiting.

You don't know whether the nonacell is better than the quad bayer or not. We have to wait for the retail unit review.
You are just making early comments.
My recommendation for the review is 'Linus Tech Tips' . That guy's review is great and unbiased.

AnonD-754814, 28 Feb 2020We'll see. Just wait for the retail version. I am saying ... moreThat's not the point I'm trying to make, I'm questioning why Samsung went for Nonacell 108MP sensor instead of QB 48MP or native 12MP ones. Continuous software updates allow for more mature post processing to be developed, that's certainly true, but that's not at all related to the reason behind Samsung's decision to go for the combination of higher MP count + higher binning ratio.

I am saying this because the wide angle is same as note 10 but note 10 wide angle takes much better photos than s20 ultra. Which proves the software isn't ready yet.
Modern smartphone photography is 40% software, 30% lens and 30% sensor.
This is why normal brand can't produce quality image even using the same sensor. For smartphone photography software is more important than hardware.

Jake420, 27 Feb 2020Hi no they aren't the same you should watch booredatwork's ... moreThank you very much my friend:)
I'm in a crisis here. Should I buy the Ultra and get an okay camera or wait for the Note 20 to possible get an okay+ camera? Buy an iPhone 11 Pro Max knowing that the 12 Pro Max will soon arrive. It's so hard. I would love to try the Ultra but for that insane price the camera should have been at least 50% better if not much more.
Although in Ultra you get a super nice display, good speakers, good gaming phone and so much more:) But I live in Greenland and love to take photos of the beautiful nature here - do you think the Ultra will be good for me then?
I will watch his video now:)

S Yu, 27 Feb 2020>Samsung is also getting influenced by them in a bad way... more"Previously they would even add "mm" to the equivalent FL which made it a plain lie, though at some point they seemed to have dropped that"
I just googled the writing on the back of every single Huawei flagship with Leica branding and couldn't find mm notation on any of them. Any specific device you're referring to or what?
Besides, if one is enthusiastic about photography enough to be able to understand what those numbers actually mean, he/she will also instantly realise that they're about the equivalent focal lengths and not the actual ones. Writing down "equiv." after the numbers would *technically* make it more an accurate description, but that's one tiny detail that absolutely nobody cares, no offence.
So here's a questions I'd like to ask you: If a potential buyer had some knowledge on dedicated cameras, which would be a more helpful, faithful representation of the actual camera specs of a phone; equivalent focal lengths with a F number or a random "100X" slapped on a back with a confusing marketing term coming out of nowhere?

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2020Absolutely no point? The effective pixel size has improved ... moreI said there's not much point of SPLITTING a large pixel into 9 smaller ones, so the question I was really asking is, why not just have a native 12MP sensor or a 48MP QB sensor with the same surface area instead? Please read properly next time.

Nick Tagataka, 28 Feb 2020It's not about the software optimisation but more to do wit... moreAbsolutely no point? The effective pixel size has improved from 1.6 to 2.4 using nona Bayer.
Algorithms will continue to improve.
Plus there is no proper review of the main sensor in low light.
All that was discussed in This article was low light from telephoto lens and daylight shots from main lens and haters are jumping to conclusions.

People became far more sensitive to the use of DSLR for the promotion of phone camera features these days, but it might be just tech enthusiasts who are actually whining about it and average consumer don't give a damn at all, I dunno. I wish somebody will carry out the survey on this matter, not on the tech websites, but person-on-the-street interviews or surveys on regular websites.

AnonD-754814, 28 Feb 2020And how do you know that ? Samsung S20 ultra isn't out yet... moreIt's not about the software optimisation but more to do with a hardware structure. One benefit of nona CFA is one-shot HDR, but if Samsung is not doing that then there's absolutely no point of splitting 1 large pixel into 9 tiny ones. The similar thing can be said for quad CFA, but at least it can reproduce details better in full resolution and different sensor readout method potentially allows the camera to produce an image without demosaicing if the ISP is capable.
