Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review

I considered replacing my Galaxy S9 plus with this monster. But finally I decided to look for another alternative. This phone is too expensive, too thick, too heavy. The camera array stands out from the device a bit too much, and the photography in them doesn't really bring anything new. Plus Samsung's insistence on leaving the previous fingerprint sensor really belittles us. I will explore other alternatives. Maybe the S21 next year will convince me more

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2020Screen is not 120hz available to user. Otherwise Sony would... more120Hz or not, display feels buttery smooth like a true high refresh rate screen. The Motion Blur Reduction method is also a way of having a high refresh rate, except it does it just as effectively as having a real one without the battery life penalty brought by high refresh rates. If that doesn't count to you as a positive, then you're completely out of your mind.
600-800 cycles may sound a lot, but in reality, you can easily do that in just 6 months of usage.
Isn't 50% in 30 minutes enough for you, that you still want an even faster one? I've been living with 10W chargers my whole life like iPhone users and not even once have I ever complained about it being so slow, and yes I have tried a phone with super fast charging, but it's just not worth the battery degredation compromise.
Aside from DisPAIDMate who claims this phone's display to be the best by testing 3 out of a million phones in the world, who else could scientifically confirm this to be the absolute best?
Sony destroys this in shear resolution. Even last year's Xperia 5 had a more color accurate display, if that's your thing.
Brightness wise, this may be the most impressive, but exactly for how long? Oh yeah, a good 30 seconds!
And whoever says a screen with a cutout is better than those without one is a pure disgrace to humanity. There's no arguing of that.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 20205K+ Exyons 990 single core performance and snapdragon 865 4... moreLol you are only relying on benchmarks, some phones can just cheat in benchmarks and perform less realistically.
Exynos 990 can't even touch SD855 and Apple A12 from last year in terms of gaming performance (because games are the ultimate method of benchmarking), let alone battery life.
Owned a S10 Exynos currently. Battery won't even last a day. Chipset thermal throttles too quickly under load.
Demanding games such as PUBG Mobile cannot run above smooth extreme. And even in smooth extreme it has possibility to stutter. HDR Ultra is a serious strain for the phone. The phone also has frame drops in COD Mobile at very high settings.
This phone also stutters in not very demanding games such as Black Desert Mobile, Armed Heist, World of Tanks Blitz, etc.
This is unfortunately, not the case with an iPhone. Tested iPhone XR last year.
The XR runs PUBG Mobile at HDR Extreme and has heat development, but provided you turn off antialiasing this phone runs well enough. COD Mobile at very high settings and antialiasing is of no problem at all. Those non-demanding games run at highest settings albeit at a fixed 60fps.
Other Sd855 phones, also reportedly run much better than the Samsung. Sammy also has a Sd855 version. There are several articles comparing gaming performance of the two models in the web, maybe look at that?
Also camera performance is way different. Exynos version is way behind the Sd version in terms of image processing.
Overall, this is one way Samsung cheats their customers by giving them a very weak chipset. Their marketing move is now worse than Apple's. Hope Apple and the Chinese (Xiaomi, Huawei, etc.) can trample Sammy's so-called Exynos.

User has to run around in circles just to get basic OTG functionality working. Not to mention the terrible security issues out of the box that can only be fixed on a open source OS like Android. IOS in 2020 is a laughing stock for Budget Androids.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 20203300 mAh battery from Sony = at least 3100 mAh after 28 mon... moreLol on what basis did you calculate those months?
Someone can charge their phones 3 times in a day since the Xperia 1 had such terrible battery life with lower capacity and thereby end up using more charge cycles causing degradation to set in way earlier than other Android manufacturers.
Sony ain't anything special when it comes to battery tech, they merely playing catchup to Chinese flagships.

But for 8K is ridiculous.
Full Hd is 1/4 of 4K, bitrates are usually half of 4K.
4K is 1/4 of 8K. It was supposed to be much more than 12% difference.
Be sure this on 8K screen will look much worse than 1080p from camera.

The only way Xperia 1 can take better pictures than galaxy Note 10 is in Manual mode.

Companies that sell tons of phones know they will make tons of money by replacing batteries. Main reason for 60W charging.

My friend has the Xperia 1 and Note 10 Plus & I can tell you Sony's image processing is way better than Samsung. Sony is much cleaner, sharper but never over sharpened,no horrible grass and trees looking like an oil painting. He showed me two indoor images taken with Xperia 1 and Note 10 Plus and the Samsung was more grainy, pixelated and had a horrible pinkish tint. Sony now working with their DSLR Alpha team has much more natural, mature image processing and not OTT HDR blowing everything up too bright. The S20 Ultra is NOT the revolution in image quality. Move on

Utter dissapointment. Especially for a phone of this price.
Even iPhone 11 Pro Max and Huawei P30 Pro scores higher than that.
The 100x zoom is just not needed at all, considering hardware limitations and only 5x telephoto which is equivalent to the P30.
Performance is also marred if using an Exynos chipset, as I've repeatedly said, Exynos 990 still can't even touch Apple A12 or Snapdragon 855 in terms of sustained performance. It also potentially thermal throttles quickly. It also has poor image processing, thanks to the weak chipset, and I wonder if the phone is really capable of 8K at 24fps video recording, with that chipset of course.
That said, consider buying a regular S20 or S20+, maybe once the review comes out. S20 Ultra is just a pointless addition to the Sammy family. S20 is a very fine enough phone according to me (tried that phone).

I am not judging based on therotical numbers but real world footage.
That 70mb bitrate is for 4K60 not 4k@24fps. 80mb is pretty respectable for daylight.
Besides, All those bitrate values can be changed via a third party camera app.
So quit bit*hing.
