As long as they don't use plastic, it will be revolution.

        No comment lol

Anonymous, 05 Mar 2020So what you're saying is, you don't use any modern smartpho... moreposter is associating this to the fact that these folding devices have plastic screens, compared to the hardened glass of non-foldable smartphones; of course, unprotected and exposed plastic screens will be alot more vulnerable to scratches, even damage, than those that have, say, a gorilla glass.

Abhi-Darth-Plagueis, 05 Mar 2020Oppo showed the Periscope Zoom camera prototype in MWC 2017... moreOppo showed the periscope camera in 2017, while Asus used it in a phone 2 years earlier. Zenfone Zoom used a double prism setup and movable lens system allowing to adjust zoom, not only set it in one place. Something similar was presented this year by Vivo in Apex 2020.
Technology takes time to mature, sure, but we should always give credit when credit is due.

Its possible. Sure. It will never be glass. So it will not be nainstream. Those plastic screens just decay quickly, within months.

Ranking of folding device build quality:

                Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
                ...
                No one else
                ...
                Still no one
                ...
                ...
                All other brands

Sheesh! Could the plastic warp any more than it does on these home made looking devices? :D

AnonD-754814, 05 Mar 2020This type of tri fold is stupid. The screen is unprotected ... moreSo what you're saying is, you don't use any modern smartphone today, because literally all of them except the Razr and Galaxy fold have an unprotected screen on the outside...

                    They are an amazing company..

the rollable one is impressive this is a no

Looks great, not that I would go for it with camera array at half thickness, they better bring new camera tech or leave full thickness for camera with the same or better specs as in today's flagships.

Harmonica(accordion)-phone..kinda weird looking thing but I appreciate TCL's attempt to make something different..cool when it's unfolded too

Well, now we want to see an spherical phone! Or a concave semi-elipsoid one! Or for that matter a conical shaped, lol

Findecanor, 05 Mar 2020These prototypes were never intended to go into production ... moreOppo showed the Periscope Zoom camera prototype in MWC 2017! It again brought it next year, but without a proper phone anyway. And even then Huawei beat it to the punch, but not until 2019 with P30 pro.

These kinds of complex innovation takes time. and that's when Prism solution for zooming was already there in consumer ready cameras. Folding screens are one of its kind.

The most interesting bit that caught my eye for the single fold/booklet concept, was, well, its color. just look at that Gorgeous green! (No sarcasm here.)

Aesthetics aside, even folded it looks a bit wide-ish, But I'll take that any day over the weird unfolded aspect ratio of Galaxy Fold or Mate X.

The final one's operation, was confusing in words. I had to see the video to fully understand it, and boy were you guys right! weight distribution concerns aside, this does look properly futuristic as well as practical and portable.

The tri-fold is concerning, when phones can-not survive even one hinge, two takes the fragility argument an order of magnitude higher. Not to mention unpleasant thickness/weight gain issues. But the like of 10.5" reduction to 6.5" (or lesser) is the ultimate goal for foldables anyway and the effort is commendable.

All that remains is protection for this sci-fi screen-technology.

1 million times more useful than Huawei Mate X foldable crap

The Idea is great, but way oversized to be useful.

They should have made a PHONE (not phablet) sized 16:9 device folded, that unfolded to a roughly 16:9 device (16:9 = 28½:16, and 9+9+1½+9=28½) of about 21cm on the long edge (an A5 narrowed to 80% to 16:9)

These prototypes were never intended to go into production anyway: only to get the brand hyped in the press.
