Huawei should unlock their bootloaders and then at least you have the option to install custom roms/firmware, gapps, etc. Personally I would prefer not having all of googles bloatware, facebook, etc installed especially now that you don't have the option to uninstall some of their services. The only app I would use is the play store, but then there are alternative app stores.. I look forwards to seeing GDSA

This took WAY to long to come to Europe... I asked my father when he was on vacation to get me a TECNO smartphone with 6000mAh battery & Helio P35 instead... But I most say this smartphone looks amazing if I were gonna buy one this would be it. Current plan I am waiting for 5G to be cheap before upgrading again. :)

Anonymous, 11 Mar 2020"We only hope for the video streaming issues to be resolved... moreThe Honor 9X Pro has ClearKey CDM, which is also Google's. Then there is the Huawei P40 Lite, also lacking Google Services, and yet it has both ClearKey and Widevine L3 support and Netflix runs fine there. So it is possible for a Huawei/Honor phone to have Widevine, and yet...

AnonD-492870, 11 Mar 2020There is no replacement for Google Apps. Google owns them.... moreI disagree. Huawei has already released a Playstore alternative & working on getting more and more app developers on board. They've also contacted TomTom for a Maps alternative. They'll also develop other replacements over time.
As for why i care about Huawei? I like their products. I find their current products better than the mainstream ones. They bring some of the most essential hardware upgrades and camera systems on their phones. I admire that.

The article mentions the k30 as having Google's blessing but isn't it only available in China so far? If so then it also would have no Google services onboard

[deleted post]Better stick to something else then. realme XT/X2 and more expensive Samsung A71 will still make more sense. Poco X2 is okay if it wasn't a serious bendgate that gets destructed by bending.

Whackcar, 11 Mar 2020These Huawei/Honor phones would be such big hits if US hadn... moreThere is no replacement for Google Apps. Google owns them. Nothing to compare to the Play store anywhere. I am uncertain what you or anyone thinks Huawei will actually achieve or do if they build their own Ecosystem? Are you just really fond of their HW or you really like something about Huawei? Just go buy a different Android phone. There are like 100s of other models that are twice as good as Huawei's models in every way...
I believe They have no chance unless they get a way back to the Google play store. They are really reaching now, and I doubt they will over come. If this new "EcoSystem" being spoke of is created it is not magically gonna happen over night. Look how long the Google and Apple empire have been going at it. Microsoft has completely overhauled and retrenched their entire OS AND Ecosystem and it has taken them over 5 years to be where they are at and still they are not even done yet. IF Huawei does follow through with what they said they will do, it would take them years to even move anywhere. And that if they do would be interesting to watch from my view point.
