Whackcar, 14 Apr 2020Price drops apply to all phones. Even P30 Pro launched at 1... morewell. from what I saw, prices oneplus phones are not that much discounted, even on older phones. I just looked up some amazon sites from Europe. maybe im wrong, you can correct me.
even samsung have huge discounts on black friday.
the point was that, there are better deals out there for people who want best value. non tech users will always go for apple or samsung, but for tech nerds discounts are important.

miaumiaumiau, 14 Apr 2020I was waiting for dave2d review. ok, this might be the best... morePrice drops apply to all phones. Even P30 Pro launched at 1,000 Euros for the base model last year.
So while $900 for the OnePlus 8 Pro might seem off putting to OnePlus fans right now, the price after one year will be pretty attractive, and the pros of this phone will end up making it a good deal then.

I was waiting for dave2d review. ok, this might be the best android phone out there, but people dont need it. you can get 90% of this phone with a huawei p30 pro for 500 euros.
for 99% of the people, even a 300 euros phone from samsung is enough.
they just went crazy with the price, when people are starting to move away from flagships.
they are trying to be huawei, since huawei will lose market share. I doubt that will work. we will probably see more of the actors and singers talking about this phone.

afronoia, 14 Apr 2020Why do I feel like the review is biased? When talking about... moreI thought, I was the only one who finds it biased lol. Especially about the front camera. Those pictures are straight bs. Yet, he is saying decent lmao. No certified water resistance. Poor Camera. Even the wireless charging 30W can achieved only by the 70 dollar OP cahrger. On all other Qi chargers it can only 5W. Way below than other flaghships. 1000 dollars/Euros is big no for this Chinese mobile. Now I must wait for Sony Xperia 1 II.

I still don't know how such a Quad Pixel sensor can take 48 megapixel photos. Dual pixel sensors can't take 24 megapixel photos due to the microlenses, which cover two subpixels. Here the microlenses cover four subpixels. (This isn't a Quad Bayer sensor, which have one microlens per subpixel)

There are a few reviews up on Youtube, and apparently the camera performance is similar to the S20 series, which is good news for OnePlus fans.
I have no reason to doubt these reviews, because this phone has the same camera setup as the Oppo Find X2 Pro (except the periscope sensor), which has already proven it's capabilities in it's GSMArena review.
Still looking forward to the GSMArena review for the OP8 Pro nonetheless.

"We are a little concerned with OnePlus' decision to switch to a dimmer f/1.78 aperture lens when its predecessors were f/1.6."
No. Many people don't know that f-number alone means nothing. The Oneplus 8 Pro has a larger (!) effective aperture diameter, which means that it captures more (!) light per time from distant objects(!). As the total field of view is similar to the 7 Pro, the total amount of captured light per time is larger as well. A worse f number only means that the 8 Pro captures less light per unit area. Due to the larger sensor, the 8 Pro still captures 59% more light per time than the 7 Pro.
At base Iso the f-number is irrelevant when you don't want to overexpose. At base Iso the 8 Pro will capture approximately twice as much light as the 7 Pro.

Kind of glad I didn't wait for this one and bought the 7T Pro in January.

Looking at the provided camera samples, the resolved detail appears to be decent but not exceptional. Dynamic range appears to be lacking. Some of the images have blurry areas (let's hope it doesn't have auto-focus issues).
I'll wait for review before coming to any conclusions though.

If brand image is the priority then OnePlus is a big NO
if budget is limited then it's fine

1+1, I was aiming to buy the phone this year but NOT ANYMORE!
this is rediculously VERY EXPENSIVE for the features that is too little pack inside!
I rather get the ZTE red magic 5G, for 8gb/128gb ( possibility with memorycard slot ) for $600!!! this oneplus will not sell well anymore but good luck to you oneplus!

Melissakis, 14 Apr 2020That curved screen. It really makes me wonder what companie... moreThey think only about pushing marketing BS to people and earning super-profits. And, apparently, most people are easily blinded, as this "trend" still goes on and it's still defended by reviewers (WHO SUPPOSED TO BE THE SMART ONES) and people in comments.

> "The lusciously red box is well-constructed and feels soft to the touch - a great first impression of any device is its packaging."
It doesn't matter.
> "If you were expecting a drastic design change, this isn't it."
It doesn't matter.
> "The ultramarine paint job on the OnePlus 8 Pro is so deep and is the most hypnotizing blue that we've ever seen on a phone."
It doesn't matter.
> "Let's talk about the curved edges of this display. but it didn't bother us."
The absolute uselessness of the curved edge display itself also didn't bother you at all, huh? Same for the hole-punch selfie camera (any other option is better). Are you crazy, insane, stupid or what?
