Claire Redfield, 14 Apr 2020That camera is so s*hitty and the sample photos look awful.... moreI agree wholeheartedly. Those main cam samples should look a lot better than they do. They're not even remotely flagship-quality. My wife's 2-year-old P20 Pro blew my 1-year-old OnePlus 7 Pro's camera out of the water. If the OnePlus 8 Pro is going to struggle to keep up with last year's flagships, or even Huawei and Google flagships from 2 years ago, they're going to be in for a rude awakening.

Too expensive for the starting price. The pro should have had a single model at US $899 configured as:
- 512GB or 1TB storage
- Dedicated microSD slot
- UFS 3.1, hp-booster optimized
- 16 GB LPDDR5 ram as the default and only option
- 90 + 120 + 144Hz refresh rates with 180/240 Hz touch sampling at QHD
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 32-bit/384kHz dedicated dac with 110db SNR or better
- 108MP main camera, f/1.4
- 24MP or 32MP selfie camera, f/1.4
- OIS and EIS for both cams
- 8k video recording capability with EIS support across all frame rates, resolutions
- Notchless display with either an under display selfie camera or a pop-out camera
- IR Blaster
- Minimum 5000 MaH battery
- Minimum 60 Watt fast charging (0 to 100 in less than 40 mins, 1000 cycles min)
- Dual fingerprint sensors: Both in-display + side power button
Accessories and Extras:
- Audiophile grade, hyrbid driver configured TWS earbuds included
- 30W or higher power wireless charger included
- Free 3 to 5 years after sales service package with doorstep pickup and return, and no-questions-asked repairs for accidental damage, display issues, or complete board / parts change.
All this would have made sense at US$ 899.
Currently it's way overpriced.

This is the beginning of the end for OnePlus. What little sales they did have stemmed from their price advantage, or more specifically, their high-end chipset price advantage. Without that price advantage they won't be getting recommendations from extremely influential people like Marques Brownlee. No one in North America is going to choose a $900 OnePlus phone over an Apple, Samsung or Google flagship. They've completely lost perhaps the biggest smartphone market in the world in India, where consumers are extremely price-sensitive. They're now going head-to-head in China with their own parent company, basically competing against the Oppo flagships they've been mimicking for years, along with cheaper flagships from Xiaomi and equally priced flagships from Huawei that have chipset/feature parity and camera superiority.
This is a brand that's struggled with its identity since the OnePlus 3. They've come to believe that just making something that ticks a bunch of boxes will equate to sales, but as LG, Sony and Motorola can attest, that's not how it works.

U.S. carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon should be working with their Test Engineers regarding at least some basic/essential features of this Chinese phone. For example, they use proprietary fast charging that is not compatible with other approved and industry tested charging such as Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge. The phone will probably charge at 5V/1A or 1.5A at best. Does it do 18W power delivery? How is this good business for T-Mobile or Verizon stores? Don't they want to sell to their customers a fast charger that has gone through certification at a workshop where Apple, Samsung, Qualcomm, Cypress, Texas Ins., Dialog, and many third party labs are? SIGHT.

harwey, 14 Apr 2020Or,you can order Op 7 Pro online for under 500 euros...almo... moreThat i completely agree with. OnePlus 7 Pro is a great phone, and would make an appealing option at the price you mentioned. Aside from better cameras & wireless charging, you don't really miss much else compared to the 8 Pro. OP7 Pro is unofficially water-resistant, has a hole-less screen, and excellent specs. Definitely a recommendable purchase.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2020"We are a little concerned with OnePlus' decision to switch... moreExactly what I say.
People wrongly think a 1/2.6 + f1.6 will grab more light than 1/1.5" + f1.8.
This way, the professional lenses would never go up to f32.

Whackcar, 14 Apr 2020Price drops apply to all phones. Even P30 Pro launched at 1... moreBut at that point they'll already in the dark side with a phone from other brand that was more attractive before. Never Settle don't drops their prices significantly. They limit them to the demand and then discontinue them at certain time no let the prices drop. So buy one cheap is not what you are going to acomplish but find a Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi and even Samsung at good prices is plausible.
