Nick Tagataka, 30 May 2020"they do 8bit + FRC to give you the perception of 10bit" P... moreif they actually claimed that their phones have true 10 bit colour dept, then proving is justifiable because our smartphone processor haven't achieved that processing power yet. but this is common sense. screen this small doesn't need a true 10 bit colour reproduction. because you can't actually percieve the colour gradiation in such a small display. so going for a FRC display makes much more sense and it doesn't strain your cpu. besides its very expensive technology too. if they used actual 10 bit display panels then the phone price will sky rocket to above 2000$.

XPR, 30 May 2020No, they don't - it's 8+2. Besides, their screen aren't ... moreIs that the reason why it shattered 10 display records in a single year while Xperia simply hogging up battery and serving motion blur gimmicks?

My One Plus 8 Pro cost £899 and I suspect the Xperia 1 ii will cost £949 0r £999 in the UK so not the alleged $300/300 euro gap in the UK. Same configuration in terms of memory, if not RAM.

Anonymous, 30 May 2020I love how sony fanboys are attacking gsmarena just because... moreMaybe you should do some reading comprehension exercises, because GSMA didn't say what you claim they have.
Additionally, I wasn't *attacking* GSMA. I was asking for a more professional review.
Many useful features were omitted here and that's a shame.

fast charging degradation isn't a myth and no, its not completely debunked. passing high current through lithium battery causes heat and heat degrades the battery life over time. 40w fast charging might look impressive in paper but that won't help your battery to survive more than 1 and half years

I really wanted to love this, but given the price I'm not quite sold.
Battery life not likely to be great.
Love the idea of combining phone and camera technologies, but in practice this looks overly complex. I don't want to have to consider which app to open to get the best shot for any given situation really. And I'm not going to bother with post processing camera photos. I want the best possible out of the camera shots on demand. I do like the look of the autofocus capabilities though. At this price and given what they are aiming to achieve I would expect this to be a class leading camera and it doesn't seem like it is.
I'm not convinced that most people want phones this big in the real world and 4k screen is in my opinion an unnecessary drain on battery life.
I think I'm holding out for the pixel 5, in the hope that they finally fix their battery life issues. failing that I'm buying the LG G8. Shame, I like what they tried to achieve and it seems like they almost got there!

Besides, their screen aren't professionally calibrated and cannot match Xperia regardless of resolution.

The best example of hardware limitation is Samsungs 8k video record - while this is an impressive feat in itself, the sheer data it's computing limits the auto focus quite badly - almost so you can't use the 30MP frame as an image.

I know 4K has a lot of issues on a mobile device, but it was Sonys decision to use one.
Probably anyone would appreciate more not 4K screen with ton of limitations and downright useless PPI, but a more brightness (especialy taking photos outside) and better battery life.
They will fix it in Xperia 5 II no doubt about that.

saved, 30 May 2020you didn't answer the question.
WHAT IS IT that people C... moreimo 4k60p is something that's good if present and not a deal breaker if absent. the main reason they put this feature is because they want to show off the phones processing power. instead they could have just improved the bitrate of 4k24p. this is exactly the same reason why many phones now comes with 8k recording, just to show off their processing power and beefy numbers. sometimes (most of the time) phone manufacturers acts like an amateur photographer or videographer.
sony is afraid of 4k60p for some reason. none of their alpha line, not even a single camera supports 4k60p. but this phone does showcase some impressive potential in camera hardware and software.
