iOS 14 makes all my old devices faster. My iPhone X is way faster compared to my friend’s Samsung galaxy s8. Both released in the same year.

Android.Master, 21 Sep 2020New feature highlights: Homescreen (stackable) widgets. ... more
I know it's infuriating to use an OS as outdated, restrictive and as limited as Apple's iPadOS and iOS. 6 years of updates and it's still the same restrictive, limited and non-customizable mess which frankly looks like a toy.

"I've set Firefox to be my default browser, stop asking me if I want to open things in Firefox. It doesn't ask for Safari, so why does it have to for Firefox? I know they'll probably fix all this over time, but it's really annoying that they haven't done a better job from the beginning."

                    >> So much noise for the so called optimized OS.
Even 200 dollar budget devices don't have this problem.

                      New feature highlights:

                      Homescreen (stackable) widgets.
                      App Library.
                      Picture-in-Picture support.
Change the default browser, email, and maps apps.
                      Tap on the back shortcuts.
                      YouTube 4K support
                      Sleep mode.

If these are your new features, Good luck calling this an upgrade especially when you compare it to Android from 5-10yrs back.
Even budget Androids flawlessly execute above features.

Widget system is still extremely limited and handicapped.
They still haven't fixed the file management. One has to jump through tons of hoops just to get basic things done, things than one can otherwise be done on Android with one click or a simple gesture.

iOS 14 certainly looks like a cheap copy of Android desperately trying to hold onto existing customers and in the process successfully enters the "Android wannabe" territory in the smartphone segment.

Don't even get me started on the bugs that are rolled out with every new major iOS iteration. Every new version of Android rolls out with 1/6th of the bugs that are present along with every iOS upgrade.

sixtymes, 21 Sep 2020that notch, I cant believe the 12 series still has that ugl... moreThe revi is about the OS, not the phone. Notch is irrelevant

DrummerAJL, 21 Sep 2020At some point they're going to make us pay for iOS updates.Yup can't rule that out.
They'll introduce a new 3 tier price system of updates with cheapest option offering limited features and costliest version offering full functionality inside iOS.

LOL. How can people think this is pretty? I thought Apple's supposed to have good designers. Their stock screen and GUI, and now widget still look atrocious.

I think Apple is kinda late to everything.

At some point they're going to make us pay for iOS updates.

It's a bit annoying that you can't also turn off Widget and Library pages. Oh and Sleep tracking app is absolutely useless. It's sleep detection is total garbage and it relies on fixed sleep schedule that you absolutely have to set otherwise it just doesn't work. And it just assumes the end of it needs to be the wakeup alarm. Even though I've already been awake for hour and a half and the thing fired up a gentle alarm. All these sensors and it couldn't tell I've been at work for half an hour already... Pillow or Sleep++ are much better as they just work detecting your sleep automatically without any fixed schedules and have really good detection. Other thing that's annoying is apps asking me to open Firefox when link is parsed within other app. I've set Firefox to be my default browser, stop asking me if I want to open things in Firefox. It doesn't ask for Safari, so why does it have to for Firefox? I know they'll probably fix all this over time, but it's really annoying that they haven't done a better job from the beginning.
