Is it mediocre compared to the devices in it's price range or are you straight up comparing with devices costing as much as 4 times higher, hence mediocre from their standards?

It's your own due deligence in knowing or researching about the compatibility of devices in your region. For instance, carriers does whitelisting of models they support and it's not GSMArena's fault if carriers does that, ask your carrier first for compatibility.

Xiaomi actually does consider that notion since that region is the main target market for this device. If you happen to visit Indian subforums or even the Indian users here in GSMArena they'll happily trade 5G for 4G and lower pricing. I mean look at the pricepoint. This isn't the "only" Xiaomi device, there are variants that could even fit or exceed your needs, just in different pricepoints.

I'm planning to replace my old Nokia 6 which I have been using for almost 4 years now. If this has 5G connectivity, I wouldn't think twice of buying it. And it has no NFC? I think Pro Minus would be more suitable name for this phone.
