Asus Zenfone 8 review

Finally, a worthy viable replacement for the LG V60 and a perfect rival to the Sony Xperia 5 Mk3. Glad to see FM Radio support on a flagship-grade smartphone again.

The IMX686 came out in 2019. It's now 2021. It's a midrange sensor now, it doesn't belong in a flagship phone.

Will wait for Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III reviews before deciding who gets my money. Also, no expandable memory on the Asus.

Looks good. Not too small, but I wish the punch hole position is closer to the corner of the phone. Hope this sells.

It's interesting that GSMA is the only site that reviewed the Zenfone 8 camera so highly. Pretty much every other review site on the internet has either called the camera average to downright poor. Just curious why this is

Asus: Let's piss of customers on both phones. Leave out some features on the base model, and then put them on the step up model, but then let's take a feature on the step up model out so neither has everything. That way both phones are missing something and customers will look at other brands instead! Let's put a dual sim tray and a headphone jack on the 8, but no micro SD card slot.
Then let's put a dual sim tray and micro SD card slot on the 8 Flip, but no headphone jack!

Whether this phone is the 'absolute' best in every category I think is not the point. What this handset does is prove to everyone that you CAN have ALL the features without compromising things like headphone jack, stereo speakers etc and in a reasonable (comparatively speaking) price. The fact Asus managed all this in a more compact form factor makes a mockery of any other manufacturers excuses why they can't fit in this or that feature because of a lack of space especially when most handsets are bigger than this one anyway. I really like it when a manufacturer exposes all the bs excuses some companies make to rip off consumers for profit while trying to hide behind bs 'saving the planet' lies. Well done Asus 👏

Is it just me or that bezel on the bottom looks kinda thick? At least for a 2021 flagship 🥲

Looking at the camera review i would say best camera in a phone in 2021. Did not read such a positive camera review in last 1-2 years. Kudos to Asus. If the unit is same on flip version then i would like to read the telephoto camera review. Looking forward to but this phone when launched in India.

In a world of increasingly big and boring Android bricks, this is like a breath of fresh air. Great job Asus this is an incredible phone that I really would like to buy

"Outstanding photo quality" is a biggest cr... OK for the daylight, but even then, what's with all that overprocessing!? And completely unusable at night, all textures are a total mess, thank you, 0.8µm pixels. But hey, Asus can advertise "impressive" 64MP!

C'mon, GSMA, did you even look when you wrote "The photos taken without Night Mode are brilliant - they are sharp, and we observed sufficient detail"!?

Good review but terrible summary. GSMA seems to think that people buying this phone will do so for the specs so have compared it with oversized flagship slabs like the Poco F3 and Xiaomi Mi 11 whilst leaving out the Xperia 5 II which is a far more sensible option.

Rather solid phone but I really wish they would have customized the skin and not followed stock. Android 11 is quite ugly and wastes a lot of space. You can see this in the positioning of the quick settings panel from the top of the phone when it could be higher up, the notifications and silent indicators, the spacing from the quick settings toggles to the volume bar, and on the top status bar.

Asus is following Google's lead and only allowing for four icons per side on the top, when there is clearly enough room to show more. Several other OEMs allow more and is one reason why I never liked side hole punches. A middle hole punch or notch maintains symmetry and most of the time, there isn't enough icons to meet that point, or they will follow Google's lead and limit the number of icons so that is always empty. It makes much more sense to put the front facing camera in an area that will most likely be unused instead of the corner.
