If you want a faster CPU and better battery life try 5IV, if you want top battery life for a fast and good camera coupled device 10IV. Xperia is trully LIKE.NO.OTHER!

Not sure about this device.
I'm a heavy user. Internet sharing for laptop, movies, music, navigation, camera, etc.
Using like for a 8 months.
And this is my personal experience.
A) GSM data connectivity is weird. Stick to the strongest but slow (EDGE) tower for long time as you in the 5G area already.
B) GSM connection itself is poor. Loosing signal when no issues with other phones.
C) Screen mirroring dead after software update.
D) At the summer time - often message: overheated
E) After all day use of Waze - screen sometimes starts to flicker.
F) Finger reader ......... Sometimes works, sometimes not. Not accurate. Slow.
G) Charging - not so fast at all.
H) Under heavy use - discharges VERY fast.
I) Tricky algorithm of volume up with buttons. Sometimes it not increases the ringer volume.
J) Time after time - touch screen is freezing. Especially during the hot weather.
On my personal opinion - too much bugs for a flagship.
Too often have to restart this device.
Somebody will say - hard reset, safe mode and etc. Helps temporary.
On other hand - why I have to be engineer just to use a "flagship"?
Have a lot's of info and several emails on the device.
Each hard reset its a pain.
Yes, its nice looking.
Yes, screen is perfect.
Yes, camera is superb.
But its more for casual use rather than for daily reliable companion.
Not for a business, that's for sure.
Or just no luck with particular device.

Thinking of getting this to replace the Zenfone 8. Should I buy this model, the 10/1 IV, or wait for a 5 IV?

ying zue, 25 Sep 2021God is cruel, God punish us with 5iii overheating and now I... moreDon't trash on Sony, it's not their fault that Snapdragon 888 is very power hungry. You should have sold this and gotten the 5 II with 865, which is both very fast and efficient. Next minute, you will call Xiaomi Drunk for throttling 12's 8 Gen 1

Great phone, I just bought it.
good camera, allthough ut struggles with night mode. I play games a lot and it overheated but not very much.
The prosessor is great, but the battery capacity doesn't feel as good as it should be.
I really like the screen brightness and screen ratio, and it's compact size.
With the new snapdragon 888 its very fast, too! And ONLY Sony, AS far AS i know, has dynamic vibration. Thats kinda cool.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2021Actually the narrower screen is a ergonomic win for anyone... moreI agree. The Xperia 5 is a dream to use one handed; it never felt like I didn't have a good handle on my device. With quick access to the one hand mode I rarely had to reach for any input to my phone. I'm glad Sony is sticking to their guns on the 21:9.
My hands aren't big, they also aren't small. I wouldn't go back to a more traditional aspect ratio if I could ever avoid it.

6.1" screen having a 21:9 ratio makes this screen 1mm less broad then a 5" 16:9 display that measures 62mm width. Very bad considering most phones today screens are 65mm - 72mm broad.
Sony is lost ergonomically here.

I read the comments but the technical details are of no interest to me and you need to have the technical experience of phone geeks to understand anyway. Not that I'm technically inexperienced - I spent all my working life as a design Engineer - but where phones are concerned I'm just a user. I'm not that interested in the camera (I use a proper camera) or gaming (I don't seriously play games). All I want is a phone with two sims, good gps with all the various providers covered, 4g LTE (I don't expect to see 5g in my area or where I visit any time soon. In fact, many of the places I visit have zero mobile service.), good battery life, ruggedness, easy to handle, bright display outdoors, and enough memory to store multiple off-line OS maps (although I always carry a paper map anyway).

jay, 30 Sep 2021becareful buying used xz2 compact... screen issues not soft... moreThank bro, my first xz2 compact already in my junk drawer, it's lower speaker became faulty, too costly to repair, in fact the Sony's service said it is beyond repair, my second xz2 compact battery is as fast as sputnik draining and never had such funny things cha going by itself on the phone althogh I deleted twice and did factory reset, now using my slower xz1 that proved more stable, battery is small, I thought I'll go for the 10iii as an I terim solution

I've experienced glitching and unresponsiveness on both of my xz2c. Also, since 3G is phasing out with most carriers it's not even worth spending the money on xz2c. I hope the overheating can be resolved because I am heavily leaning towards 5iii when it's released..
