Ironically, the specs aren't so outdated for a 1 y.o. flagship. Which tells a lot about the sad state of affairs in flagship enterprise lol

The Chinese version is already below 900 euros

Huawei has some really impressive hardware and software management. If they had 5G and Google Services + a reasonable price, this phone would be such a deal. But that is not the case, so, yah, no one is gonna pay $1000 for a phone with no Google Services.

The front looks generic so no complaints, would be nice if they could find a way to have a super slim top bezel and somehow cram a camera sensor in there to eliminate the punch hole.
The back of the phone is absolutely ugly though.

Love the unique design, especially those black with a bit of tiny touch gold accent. Then the rest of the thing start to fall apart.

First, of course camera. Because of the ban, P50 has to sacrifice a lot in terms of hardware. Early stage it was plan to put a 1" main camera sensor. Then Sony dont have the license to supply them because of the ban. Resulting in using Omnivision, and smaller than its predeccesor. B&W make a comeback because they dont use RYYB anymore, so it helps to catch more light to compensate it. UWA is a big downgrade. The most interesting part are its 64mp telephoto, saves the dual (x3 & x10) technique & puts in a brilliant way. I've seen the sample & its good. Hopefully the camera software are more mature than before because of the inferior hardware compared with last P40.

Then, the price. Come on, we all know that Huawei now are using almost 100% local equipment, material & hardware because of the ban. It supposed to be cheaper than before. I guess they want to catch big profit because they know they wont sell well anymore.

Currently I'm using P40. I'm okay with no GMS (tones of solution available without sideloading). But would I upgrade to Huawei for its uncertain future? Nahhh. Maybe Xiaomi with its new joint venture with Leica.

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2022Only way out huawei has is to sell ODM phones made by Honor... moreGood

I guess switching to Snapdragon SoC took a massive toll on the image quality as well. The photos don't look terrible but it's still nowhere near as natural as Mate 40 Pro or the Kirin variant of P50 Pro as far as the detail rendition goes.

If P50 Pro would cost like $600 maybe, just maybe it's a reasonable purchase but for around $1000 there is no point of buying Huawei "flagship" when you can get even better smartphone from Apple or Samsung and use it flawlessly without any hassle. No matter what you'll do with Huawei EMUI/HarmonyOS it will never be as flawless experience as Android with GMS or Apple iOS.
