I have a comment somewhere below that I had this pre-ordered, but it was the most underwhelming upgrade I would do and I usually take years to upgrade (but I work with every generation, including iPhones, because of my line of business, so I am well aware of how things evolve). I take years to upgrade but usually hit a top tier device, so that it "holds" long enough.

So, I *did* receive my S22 Ultra yesterday.
My previous device was an ancient (but still in most things "current" enough) Note8.
It took a few hours to sync/port things and I'd say it succeeded 90% to get me to a state where I could just turn off and even factory reset my Note. It needed some manual work (esp. concerning some app logins) but nothing too much.

Kudos to Samsung, for making it easy to "feel at home" esp. coming from a previous Galaxy (even so many generations back).
But this also is part of the "underwhelming" thing I expected (and I was right).

I had a device with way older Android, way older UI, way slower (ha... but not that much, thanks Samsung) etc.
And I got to the supposed top-end device (esp. for Androids) until the next. Well it didn't feel like that.
My old UI was already smooth (and the difference in smoothness looked like it was because of 120Hz mostly - which is something you now get even in mid-range), my apps worked fine already (and most games), my camera was significantly worse but still respectable (and after all I didn't move to DxOmark #1 but to #13... although the new zoom is out of this world). More importantly, I really needed the extra space (not storage, but also space for apps), moving apps to SD is VERY problematic when it can be done).
Since I wouldn't (and couldn't) wait any more when and if Xiaomi (I am really not looking at any other brands except those two) will release a great 12 Ultra (with many "buts" that are not for this thread). I made the move.

Thing is: I didn't feel any super upgrade or something really revolutionary (or significantly evolutionary) stepping from Note8 to Note 22... erm S22 Ultra. This from the side of the USER. From the side of tech enthousiast and IT pro, where we love numbers, yes, some changes are significant, yet some are underwhelming even for enthousiasts.

It seems a lot of the innovation by Samsung in recent months is focused on the RAW files. It would have been great to get some RAW examples and evaluation of the Expert RAW and regular RAW in different situations. May be even night photos from tripod.

Anonymous, 02 Mar 2022Absolutely true, stfu snapdragon, no one wants you accept ... moreIt does suck that we can't get roms with sd but in fairness sd has been more powerful and efficient for a few years now.
The difference this time is not so much.
Yes the s1-s8 exynos was better usually in numerous ways. Whether it's cpu, gpu, audio, or efficiency. But now it's sd.

Its rubbish, I had a snapdragon s205g, it had hardly any custom rom or Kernels available, all available on exynos. No wonder no country wants too buy snapdragon

Did anyone noticed issues with photo sharpness? I compared s22 U with my previous s21+ and difference with sharpness is huge on s21 plus. Also at night s21 doing better job which is ridiculous. Of course both exynos variants .

                    80% is exynos elsewhere

No one buys Snapdragon in UK or in Europe. There's so many listed on ebay and other sites.
Exynos might be slower by 10%, but you can't hardly see any difference, exynos custom made chip moongose blows the Snapdragon by 15% and that was clocked 15% lower clock speed. We all know and previously exynos was always a better chip. The reason Snapdragon has patents on 5g which samsung uses their own chip.

Why don't qualcom banned apple when they are not allowed too use 5g hippocryte. I'd love too see apple get banned like samsung

Most custom ROMs are made on and for Snapdragon processors! Because Qualcomm uploads their kernel source codes on the CodeAurora Forums. Mediatek and Exynos are the ones who are constrained when it comes to source code; there's barely any proper Custom ROMs for their chipsets

The use case is that many see just used to it and believe it's superior when in fact it generally was not. The only use case is not being able to use FaceTime on non iPhone or work places requiring them. Other than that it's 99% false belief. So try again.
