Asus Zenfone 9 long-term review

11 January 2023

Sort by:

The problem with Asus phones is mainly on the software support, warranty and availability mostly.

And its not just the S22.
For example at this time of writing, the Zenfone 9 8/128 is at 800euro.
On Amazon France, the Pixel 7 is at 600 and the pro is on discount for 770euro.

I do like Snap8 gen1+, the flat screen, headphone jack and overall look of zenphone, but no way in hell am i paying for a 2022 android flagship full price in 2023.

And its not like Asus has the best software support or warranty to back this price up.

Phones are not just specs on paper or looks or size. You are paying for the overall package when we are talking flagships.

The double tap on the back thing does not work that good it is a gimmick just like it is in the iphone. It is not that practical am with you on that.

The pocket mode is working for me fine though. So i did not face any issue u can consider as a deal braker 🤔 and i am using it since its release

I was not sure to spend so much money for a phone, only because of it''s compact dimensions. But there was no choice and I needed a new device that time. Now I know, it was the right decision, but infact I don't need this horsepower that this device offers. So I will have an eye on the next Xperia Ace IV with 5,5 inch screen, if it turns out to be true that it will be released globally.

"those who just think phones should be smaller ... regardless of hand size or any such considerations. If you're one of them, we hope you bought a Zenfone 9 or a Galaxy S22 to prove your point and support your idea ... 'putting your money where your mouth is"

I want a small phone, but not the ZF9 or S22. Far too expensive, no SD, and more deficiencies. Small is very important, but it's not the only criteria. If manufacturers are basing their size decisions on how the market accepts one flagship model, they're doing it wrong.

I do have a Samsung A41, though, which is a similar size. Still too big, but that's the only practical option in the market.

Zenfone with the flip camera was amazing. These phones without the flip camera suck. Literally not remotely worth paying any attention to at all. If ASUS refuses to innovate like they did with the Zenfone 8 then don't buy.

Too expensive and not enough software support. The only reason this phone is so hyped is because it's small and powerful, so it's unique in the Android world

This phone still hasn't been released in India. What is Asus India doing I don't know. Zenfone 8 was launched very late as well.

You just forgot all the issue the phone gets. One of the majors is its spontaneous reboots, forum here: https://zentalk.asus.com/t5/zenfone-9/zenfone-9-randomly-restarts/m-p/182524 it's been almost a year and they have no clue what happens, probably a hardware issue.
Also the pocket mode is total crap, found dialing to people and activating smart home buttons from my pocket all the time, finally cancelled the double tap and its likes gestures.

Love this phone, but not for me... Need atleast an SD card slot and Wireless charging... Hopefully zenfone 10 would make it happen... But really, I hope Asus would try to make a phone like LG Wing 🤣 i want about to buy LG Wing but it sadden me that LG already said about retirement in mobile industry

newflesh, 13 Jan 2023So absolute minority has got a laptop or separate game cons... moreMost people have a laptop or at least a basic desktop PC (if not both). The PC can run games, so you don't necessarily need a games console. Most of my friends who bought a PS5 or Switch say that after the first 2-3 months, they stopped using them and it's just gathering dust in the cupboard. Fact is, gaming on a laptop or desktop PC just makes sense when you're at home.
