I compared the S23 Ultra's periscope with the Pixel 7 Pro in a store.
In the store, the Pixel 7 Pro's tele at 360mm (15x setting) performed very similarly to the S23 Ultra at 360mm. When the faster Night Sight mode was turned on, then the 7 Pro seemed to be even better at 360mm than the S23 Ultra in its auto mode. By the way, the night mode of the S23 Ultra didn't seem to perform well at high zoom settings, but I havent tested this enough.
At 30x, the S23 Ultra produced smoother contours than the 7 Pro at 15x, but it was obvious that machine learning was used, for example, distant text contained letters that don't exist. So I can't say that the S23 Ultra's tele performs better.
Note that the 7 Pro delivers the best results at approximately 15x (regarding distant objects). A crop from a 15x photo gives you more detail than a 30x photo. Even a live photo video frame can give you more detail. Google's algorithm destroys details at 20x-30x.
Also note that physically, Samsung's and Google's periscope are very similar. Google has 12% more pixels per angle, so at 15x, Samsung actually needs to upscale more(!) than Google, but Samsung has a better color filter array (Bayer instead of Quad Bayer) and a 2% larger effective lens diameter (5.55mm vs 5.43mm) and maybe(!) a sharper lens.
Also, at base Iso, Samsung's periscope can theoretically capture twice as much light per frame from distant objects (without blowing out highlights) due to the higher focal length (27.2mm vs 19mm).
Also note that Google only uses 0.7 micrometer pixels in good light conditions. At night, its periscope switches to 1.4 micrometer pixels, even when Night Sight is turned on.

Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the side buttons of this phone feel weak, cheap and too small in size for a phone of such size. Samsung didn’t get it there. Even the click feels cheap.😒

Alp, 14 Feb 2023Anyone can recommend me a phone that is better than S23U he... moreRealme GT 2 Pro.

        - Clean and intuitive OS, lots of customization, wide freedom to 'user.

        - Gorgeous screen, one of the best in recent years.

        - Camera good in all conditions.

        - Excellent battery. (special fast charging circuitry).

        - NO thermal throttling, excellent load management on cpu. (Great engineering in heat dissipation produced by Snap8 Gen1)

        - General stability, stable and frequent updates, robustness, solidity, elegant design.

All industry digital specialist publications, have deemed it an excellent device in all aspects.

        Best Buy of the moment.

I recommend the white paper version.

If you pair it with the Jabra 85t, NuraTrue, or Audio-Technica CKS50TW (all best buy in this moment), it is the ultimate in rich, powerful sound.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2023How do you do that? By using the default camera app?In the default app, open settings and select Settings to be kept, and activate "Filters".
It even keeps the strength of the filter.

              Iphone portrait are lovely comparable

I don't get why the iPhones are even mentioned for the camera. Yes, videos look good, but photos? Not even close to what most Android flagships offer.

Ever since S2 iteration then, Samsung Photo Algorithm is more or less the same processes even now. Samsung needs to partners with a known Camera Tech to get the proper image processing for their Mobile Phone Business.

The score points were not by guessing or determined by human behaviors but machines technologies. So less error for the score points!!

disapointing, 21 Feb 2023The only disappointing is how poor they evaluated the Noise... moreIf I have to choose which way I prefer, it will be definitely too much noise, then too much noise reduction. You can easily reduce it, but resting details taken by noise reduction is not possible. Same with sharpening. I prefer a softer image, that I can easily tweak with any, even inbuilt in most galleries editors, than having to oversharpen with halos and artifacts. So I even wish that Samsung tones down both noise reduction and sharpening in default processing. Or, if they are adding more things to Camera Assistant, they could add Noise Reduction, Sharpening, and Saturation dropdowns with 3 possible values: low, medium, and high.

Bodygard, 19 Feb 2023No news on the site about dxomark s23 ultra disappointing s... moreThe only disappointing is how poor they evaluated the Noise on S23. Actually they rated so bad on something that is only a software tweak, not a hardware issue. For Samsung, the reason to keep that low was the criticism about preserving the details in the past.
The truly funny thing is that if Samsung release a software update, the S23 Ultra becomes automatically the best cameraphone! They can easily get 15 more points only of Noise section! They don't need to change anything else to get the crown!

Too bad they opted for this 200MP 0.6µm sensor as main, instead of using the GN2, or revised version of this.

I’m not biased either way,I love my iPhone 13 Pro Max and I also have just got a s23 ultra. Now what I have noticed is the Samsung screen isn’t as clear as the iPhone screen even at the top definition it seems to have less whiteness to it,that’s vivid or natural mode,I’m presuming it’s the apple True Tone that makes the screen seem more pure, the Samsung screen seems artificial to me and even in comparison reviews on YouTube between the 23 ultra and the 14 pro max the Samsung screen seems off colour??

AnonF-1085071, 20 Feb 2023Well it's actually the best in zoom and battery life i... moreAll depends on the needs. For me, zooms like 5x or 10x are redundant. If I had to choose only one zoom, that would be something like 2,5x for perfect portrait shots. And again, if I had to choose between having zoom at all and great UW, I take UW. So for me, smartphone wining in the "best zoom" category, is like some beauty content on the other side of the planet. Congrats, but I don't care.
As for the battery I agree, that everyone will be happy about the improvements in this department.
