Anonymous, 27 Feb 2023The problem is Euro high tax system That's not a reason though for the increase in prices. Taxes in Europe are the same as they were last year so it can't offer any explanation fot the price increases.

Even if Xiaomi remains in the Stone Age with USB 2.0, well at least it has an IR port (infra Red port for the remote control) very useful with the appropriate application installed in the phone. The lack of IR port made me lose interest for ever in Samsung at all after the Samsung S5...

If a processor draws up to 15W of power, a game will only draw 3-5W at most, so there is no correlation between high benchmark stability and game sustainability.
The benchmark application is constantly under 100% load, which the phone will never use, and the foolish user thinks that stability is better than high temperatures.

[deleted post]It's basically semantics. It depends on the definition of flagship. According to longman dictionary a flagship product, 'is the best and most important one that a company produces'. According to that definition you could look at the top model from any smartphone brand as a flagship as the definition states the most important one i.e. the Iphone pro max/S23 ultra/Xiaomi 12s ultra/Oppo find x5 pro/Vivo x90 pro+. Some brands themselves talk about a flagship series. Some people on this site seem to believe if a phone has the top processor it is a flagship. Ultimately, a flagship could be different for different people depending on the criteria. It may have to have all the bells and whistles. Definitely, the Xiaomi 13 is a good phone but it does not have a top level screen (it's still an 8bit 1080p display) or certainly does not have top level camera hardware. It's using the same old budget omnivision OV13B10 1/3.06" ultrawide that has been used since the Xiaomi 10 (replacement cost 6.80 euro). The telephoto is a very small sensor at 1/3.75" (replacement cost 12 euro) and the main sensor is more or less a mid level sensor at this stage. We saw it already last year on the Honor 70 midranger (Replacement cost 28 euro). The entire cost to replace all the rear cameras would be 47 euro. The predecessor to this phone in China was the Xiaomi 12s which used an imx707 sensor. The replacement cost on that is 60 euro (yes, 13 euro more than all the rear camera sensors combined on the Xiaomi 13). The most disappointing thing on this phone for me is the massive downgrade of the main camera from the Xiaomi 12s. I think it's better to have one very good main camera rather than a very average telephoto. But they have really skimped out on the camera hardware for a phone at this price.

Even in its home market it is a bit overpriced for the hardware on offer. Other brands are now offering similar hardware for a lower price. When the price goes up then the device can be held to a higher standard

Lower temperature also benefit the battery. Good cooler fans like those from Black Shark can be bought for around $15.

"Upper midrange" would be something like the good old Samsung A52s, or Pixel 6a/upcoming 7a. Maybe even the base Pixel 6/7.

ashrobb, 28 Feb 2023Just judging by the things you wrote, I suggest you to read... moreNot necessarily "better" when talking about heat dissipation. I assumed that the cooling system on the regular 13 was inferior based on the fact that GSMArena mentioned it was "really hot" and "definitely uncomfortable to touch", while the Pro was "still possible to hold it comfortably" during the CPU test and "barely warm" for the GPU. But fair enough, the regular 13 did perform a bit better in the CPU stress test, so that might even things out for them.
"The phone scored great in every aspect you mention"
Yeah, for an upper mid-range phone, the Xiaomi 13 did amazing in these regards. But it doesn't compete with, say, the S23 Ultra or the 13 Pro, both of which are high-end phones from their respective companies.
"Are the base S23/S23+ or the base iPhone 14 models not flagships then?"
Flagship phones do not necessarily have to be high-end phones. Pixel 5 back in 2020 was a pretty basic mid-range (I wouldn't even call it "upper" midrange) device, but nonetheless it was still a flagship product for Google back then. The regular S23 and iPhone 14 aren't high-end phones in my book as their respective manufacturers cut a lot of corners on these phones to make sure they are distinguishably inferior to the Ultra/Pro variants, which are indeed true high-end phones and marketed as one.
But I guess we could agree to disagree.
