of all the midrange crap of 2023, this a54 would seem the least worst....

Samsung design is becoming incredibly lazy, sloppy. Performance and value for money continue their regressive slide.
I have small to medium hands and every mm in width makes all the difference between usable or manifestly unusable.
At 76.7mm for a 6.4" screen, the A54 is even wider than the A71 from 2019, which had a far larger 6.7" display. That was unusable for me, likewise the Nothing Phone (1), which is still almost 1mm less wide than the A54 with a larger 6.55" display (and symmetrical bezels all round, aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass back). Speaking of bezels, many reviewers described the Nothing Phone as having uniform but huge bezels - in that case the A54 bezels in real life must be positively elephantine.
As for performance and value for money: the Pixel 6a can currently be bought in the UK from Currys for exactly half the price of the A54 (factoring in voucher), and 45% less at Amazon. In other words you can buy two Pixel 6a phones more or less for the price of one A54. Vastly better performance by two class brackets. And indeed the flagship Pixel 6 is widely available for 20% less than the A54, whilst the Pixel 7 occasionally drops to approximately the same price as the A54.
Sorry Samsung can't understand why anybody would buy an A54, but evidently plenty of people will.

Mills, 30 Mar 2023Haters about slow against 778G were saying? They were saying this crappy exynos will dethrone SD7 gen1 guess what it hardly matched SD778G (which 2yrs older).
If I would buy an A series phone in this inflationary year ,I will get A52s in a heartbeat.
and for rating I would give below 4 stars as it should have a better chip with WiFi6E...

[deleted post]I have a Pixel 4a 5G and a Galaxy S21. The Pixel, despite its ancient sensor, takes far better pics. Colours are far more accurate. Samsung does some things better than Google, but photo processing isn't one of them, so I'll always have a Pixel as my primary phone. If my current Pixel died, I'd likely upgrade to the 7 or 7a.

4+ stars for this phone is comical. It's literally a downgrade from their 2 year old phone🤣

Overall it's still a really good phone for general usage, if you won't push it too hard in gaming.
4 Years of OS and 5 Years of Security Software Updates makes a a really good deal for those who don't plan to switch/buy a new phone every year or two, and plan to keep it for 3+ years.
The only thing I would still "maybe" want is a faster charging speed (30-45W), but only if they can keep the battery life the same as it is already.
The full price for the phone is kind of a "meh" for me, but here in Slovenia (for example), I already recommended it to a couple of my friends, because on a carrier deal (plan), the phone only costs 312€ (128GB, 360€ for 256GB), which is a really good deal, and they are also currently offering the "Galaxy buds live" for free, when purchasing the A54 or A34. The A34 for example costs 260€ for a 128Gb and 320€ for the 256GB variant.
All in all... it's a really good deal if you would ask me, especially compared to some ridiculous prices for some of the phones here. For example, the Xiaomi Note 12 series still havne't arrived in our country for some odd reason, and the only next best "closely priced" option is the Poco X5 Pro, which is 245€ for 256GB or the Xiaomi 13 Lite (Same price as A54).

I'm undecided whether to change my a52s 5g with this one, my camera takes pictures that don't convince me much, this one from a54 looks better.
I liked pixel 7, but, in addition to costing about €150 more, it has no SD slot and I don't know what kind of assistance it can get here in Europe.
everything else is pure crap

So the A54 isn't as bad as the A53, but the S20 FE 5G and A52s absolutely do not have company in the pantheon of 2020s Samsungs that are priced to talk non-brand-loyal consumers out of the Chinese brands.
Did Samsung price these betting that said Chinese phones would be banned everywhere or something? Only explanation for the launch price.
Very glad I recommended an A52s to multiple friends. They essentially have a half-price A54 with fewer updates left.

"...the dip to 54% of the maximum result is among the lowest ones we've seen." literally made me lol. What is Samsung doing?

ok, the review convinced me.
I will buy it, at least compared to the competition it still has the SD card slot, the camera is competent and the chip will certainly not be the best in class, but it seems reliable.
all the other mid-rangers fell behind, xiaomi leads the pack.
I wait for the price to drop a little and I will buy A54 samsung

Terrible phone by Samsung. I can't imagine how hard Samsung execs are laughing at those dumb enough to buy it at the (overpriced) full price, let alone preorder it.
