Samsung Galaxy A34 review

I also wasn't expecting to see such a difference in high refresh rate handling between this A34 and A54 - the two series didn't used to have such differing handling in the past. It seems petty of Samsung to not have adaptive rate handling on a phone it wants to sell for €400 and also in 2023.

I was a realme x3 superzoom user, its cheap but i got it for free from my workplace, then they offering to change it to Mi 10T pro, an upgrade well ofcourse i accepted that, i bought a galaxy m21 a few months later for casual gaming and streaming, then i realize my m21 just spend 5 GB per month and the Mi 10T Pro spend at 17 GB per month, i want to change it for realme x50 pro but its kinda hard to find at that time, its quickly sold out, then i saw s21 fe few months later, i bought it but little bit dissapointed because of the battery life, but i spend the data usage is just 7 GB per month, with good sound, good screen, satisfying camera capabilty, and yes it has some bloatware that cant be uninstalled bu atleast its not a data usage stealer.

The battery charging results we see here are quite strange, especially the full charging result.
It seems to take so much longer than previous Galaxy A3x, even though it has the same battery size and same fast charging support as the A33 ( same for the A54, which seems to fully charge in about half the time! )

rizki1, 11 Apr 2023500K AnTuTu but it doesn't support ultra graphics on m... moreBecause it is not gaming priority, its just gaming capability/casual gaming, its an all rounder midrange phone, not for an insane gaming like you which gave "everything is good" for the 92hrs battery endurance rating phone, ultra performance in mobile gaming for just what, 5 hours SoT?🤔, and you said you are from indonesia, im very sure in Indonesia, almost all BBK phones including flagship line is a data usage stealer, (ALMOST), switch off the data usage for some apps but when you turned on the data connection, the data usage jump up from 7 Mbps - 10 Mbps for almost 1 minute, its just like bought a cheap decent hardware phone for cash, but feels like credit everyday until piss off by the phone.

As the Dimensity 1080 can record 4K video, it is most likely able to decode 10 bit HEVC. Not 100% sure but it is likely to be the case. All the modern chipsets that don't have 10 bit HEVC are usually capped to 1080p video recording as well.

flop, 10 Apr 2023Would've bought it if it didnt have a teardrop design,... moreYeah, the tear drop notch should only be in their entry level lines (A0x to A2x). If they really want to differentiate it from the A5x, they could've just used a punch hole on the upper left corner of the screen. I mean, they were able to do that on their entry level A11/M11 phones from almost 3 years ago ffs

Not that I care about HDR but, I was hoping for it to at least be able to decode it, like other phones that use the same processor.
Phones that can decode HDR can also decode HEVC 10bit and that is what is very important for me. A lot of anime (and also TV show and movie) releases in torrent are using this codec, and without proper hardware decoding the video player will drain a lot of the battery and the image quality won't be as good.
A budget SoC is good enough for my daily use, except when handling 10 bit decoding. I don't get why Samsung chose to remove this feature, it would provide a HUGE improvement in battery life for those who watch content encoded using HEVC 10bit. I'm sure that I won't be the only one annoyed by that.

A34 has larger screen than A54.
A34 has better SoC than A54.
Still much longer endurance.
The better cam setup on 54 is not worth the price difference.

The very high endurance rating here really highlights what a terrible job Xiaomi have done the Redmi Note 12 Pro and Pro +
Xiaomi seem determined to lose even more market share
The lack of headphone jack on the A34 is still unacceptable though and I'd never buy it or any other phone without it or microSD

I always get more than 15h SoT .
Calls, text, 4G, camera, youtube, photo editing, tv shows streaming, offline music, maps, web browsing.
I did not want to get new sim to use 5G, the 4G gets me sometimes more than 100Mbps and it is way more than I need outside home.
Considering 120Hz has no utility for me, leave it at 60.
No need to recharge more than 3x per week.

Amazing. Pretty good, balanced, midrange device. If it had the good old 3.5mm jack and a slightly better camera it probably would be the best midrange so far. In a few months if the price drops in the range of ~$250 it would be a very strong pick.

I need a phone with solid battery life instead as for my work, I am on the go all the time so at best I find some crappy USB 2.0 in a train to charge my phone, not sufficient of course.
Also I prefer charging at night, but my brother has a phone with 150watts charger and he finds it convenient that even while he has to charge his phone twice a day, it is full in under 25 minutes.
I wouldn't use it even if my phones had it, but I do think that phones need to have both to appeal to both groups.
But Samsung is not the right company to look at for it, chinese brands with their cheaper more disposable models are the way to go for fast charging.

Bought it before this review and was right :) . Great mid tier phone for this price.
The cons of this model is the lack of e-SIM, 3.5" TRS port (Samsung being cheapskates again), and crappy under display fingerprint scanner. Admittedly it is better than first gen scanner in my S10P, but still junk. I would trade it for a normal standalone scanner any time.
Pros are all listed in the review and I agree with them. Very good value.

With such solid b... moreI charge my work phone (120watt) at night too, albeit with a 10 watt charger.
For those resting 10% of the time I grab the 120watts, because while I want a full phone at start of the day, most of these fast charging phones don't last me a day (again a WORK phone, so used a ton)
And not always I have a regular power outlet near me.
However I do understand why some people love it, I don't care as much, the phone must be full before work and I charge phones at night my whole life.

Samsung need wake up call, nearly 2 hours for full charge is no longer in Fast charge territory. A34 is good phone but not for those super slow chrage. sammy highest fast charge rate is only 45 watt and only for high end one.
