They seem to be unaware how cloud storage services have draconian rules or will implement ones out of the blue. You just have no idea when someone's (a dad for example) gonna be suspended for uploading a harmless photo of himself shirtless carrying his child who is only wearing a diaper.
They have no say on our own local storage unless something like CSAM was being implemented in the background.

Wow, so it beats the Huawei P60 Pro by 0.1 but with worst camera and battery performances. How?
Here's Sony's CONs:
- No charger and no cable in the box.
- No dynamic refresh rate for the screen.
- No camera macro mode.
- The Night View is more like low-light HDR, which is less than what we expected.
- Still throttles under heavy loads, but it's mostly GPU throttling now.
- The videos processing of the main camera could use some tuning, especially at night.
Here are the CONS pointed out on DXOMARK':
- Struggles in low-light situations, particularly when taking videos; not suitable for night photography
- Visible strong green cast when viewing display on angle
- Brightness is too low under sunlight and in low-light conditions
- Poor charging performance

- Low autonomy overall
The minute I saw 30w charging and 21:9 screen I knew this wasn't going to be great. The review is baffling to me.

Anonymous, 13 May 2023mSD (or m2 like I had in my SE Phones) makes much more sens... more1. Flash storage was almost always faster than microSD due to the sheer size of the storage medium. This is not a problem that appeared in 2023. Having a chip in a phone near the processor that can be measured in centimeters, compared to microSD's small overall size and milimeters, maybe microns of the storage itself.
2. Your comparison with old phones is quite moot, as in SE times phones did not have much storage, however, applications used kilobytes of storage, as well as video (144p, in later days 480p maximum) and most people did not need any apps and were not dependant on internet services, they were using telephone calls, SMS, occassional photos and video and that is it.
3. I had a Galaxy S7 that had both fast internal storage (UFS 2.1) and a fast Samsung SD card (advertised 90/80 MB/S R/W). The SD card did not hinder performance at all, and I was offloading apps onto the SD card (remember those times?), as well as capturing 4K30 video onto it, and I did not experience any problems or difficulties. Responsiveness is again, subjective, and it can vary from phone to phone, as well as human to human.
4. You say you have an S22U with 256GB of storage and you can choose 512GB or 1TB models. Technically, you are right, no one forbids you from getting a second phone just to get more internal storage, however, the process required to sell the phone first, then to buy another, then to set it up again is definitely not compelling. Of course, if you have money, than you can just buy phones whenever you want and don't give a damn. Also, USB flash drives and external SSDs are not elegant options, when we are talking about pocket devices.
5. Of course you are not running out of storage, because you are capturing in 1080p, wow, what a surprise. If I had 1GB of storage and captured footage in 480p, I would also say that it is enough and I don't need those pesky SD cards. Talking about the 1V itself, there won't be many users that will use 1080p because they want to use the functionality that they paid for, and reviews that show 4K 120fps videos and slow motion also strengthen this point. Also, there is one review that pointed out that 4k captures are massive in size, almost 3x more bitrate than the new Samsungs and iPhones.
6. Let's look at this Sony as a camera for a bit. Because it is a cameraphone that is heavily focused on camera features. If you would have bought a camera that had some kind of internal storage, but no options except cloud or USB for external storage, would you be compelled to buy it still? If yes, than that is very weird, because you are purposefully opting to have a less elegant experience. MicroSD cards give way to quite cheap storage, that doesn't obstruct functionality AT ALL, moreover, is easier to use, you just need to pop out the card and put it into a computer and just go with it. Also, this phone is advertised as being a "pal" of sorts to the Sony Alpha cameras. I understand why would you want to quickly pop in and out the card from the camera to the phone for checking the footage or sharing it to the internet or other uses.
It just all makes sense. I don't understand why do you need to comment in this thread and say that microSD cards don't make sense. Maybe you are just a troll under that "Anonymous" name, or you just like Samsungs. Or you are being pushed into thinking that microSD is obsolete technology, which it is not, as it is a medium that is still being used today in a lot of applications and is constantly evolving. Giving users choice is never a bad thing. You don't like microSD, okay, just get a phone with a bigger storage (Xperia 1V exists with 512GB, by the way), just how you like, or get some cloud storage, or some USB flash drives that you have insisted on so much in the past. It's your choice. By implementing microSD no one forbids you from using other storage mediums and options. Just stop being ignorant.

Slavojic, 13 May 2023There are always discussions about headphone jacks and micr... moremSD (or m2 like I had in my SE Phones) makes much more sense when phones had very limited internal storage. In my SE W995 8GB m2 card made a huge diference vs base 118MB.
In Xperia Z base 32 GB was still quite small so added mSD was necessary.
But removing mSD went along with rapid increase both capacity and speed of internal storage.
So unless one makes tons of photos or many 4K videos (I prefer FHD as it is easier to share and edit and consume fraction of resources) 512 or 1TB UFS internal storage is more than enough and loading files In gallery / responsivnes of phone is much better with UFS.
I have 256 GB S22U and I had not been out of storage space during any vacation trip no metter how much videos or photos I made.
And this is 256 GB. I can choose 512 or 1 TB if 256 wouldnt be enogh.

mmj321, 13 May 2023Sony turned me from die hard hater fan to die hard haterYou don't need to be one. I could have hating both Samsung and Apple right now, but I know that any phone have its pros and cons. If I want mobile desktop productivity, I buy Samsung because of DeX. If I want long support, I buy Apple because only they got access to iOS updates. If I want a professional-grade camera with professional-grade manual control, it's an easy Sony for me. That is a simple concept people like you won't understand.

Slavojic, 13 May 2023There are always discussions about headphone jacks and micr... moreNice argument there. I believe major manufacturers ditched either a 3.5 jack or mSD slot because of wanting more revenue from their audio accessories (e.g. AirPods) and cloud services. If this works for Apple and to some extent Samsung and Google, they will never back down on the above behaviour.
3.5 jack still takes up a bit more space in smartphones, this is a fact. But if Xiaomi (Poco F5 and Redmi Notes) and Sony still capable of cramming 3.5 jack into theirs, I can't see why other manufacturers can't do so no matter what excuses they have.

If anything, they should have made a much larger notification LED, e.g. like the Xperia SP, or even better put the notification LED so large that it wraps around the whole perimiter of the phone.
