Everybody knows you think 50MP file from 13 ultra is on pair with 50MP from Alpha 1 when it comes to texture and noise , no matter we say it is impossible.

Measuring sharpening from 0 to 100, sony level is not even 10 ( dng files prove this)
Chinese phones are 40-65.
Galaxy S/iphones/pixel above 95 ( fact, you like it or not, so youtubers can make viweres believe it is details)

Stop acting like 50MP QB would give same texture of 50MP bayer.
It does not.
Gsmarena is tired of saying full mode is upscaled version instead of QB ➡️ Bayer conversion. Gsmarena has said 10000x the words " no benefit".
Another " benefit" to OEMs using this tech is the fact they dont need to buy the lenses they would need if using 48/50MP bayer. Lenses used now are same they would buy if using 12/12.5MP bayer.

Sony semicon has Bayer high resolution alternatives Exmor T. No one is interested. Reason? Cost of better lenses.

AF system would never be at 48MP as efficient as 12MP because of readout modes. It would not burst 48MP@30fps while doing AE/AF.

It is made to cover as much situations as it can, not just photos of food, ppl standing still like statues and neon signs like other brands care about.

Instead you should complain to samsung and oppo why both do worse despite larger sensors.


    Anonymous, 17 May 2023And I would like to challenge you on the notion how other &... moreI really like the fact that you ignored literally everything I said and proceeded to present me 12MP samples when my point is how proficient image processing can extract a great amount of details out of a 48MP full-resolution image from a Quad Bayer sensor that cannot be matched by a regular 12MP binned output.

    Take a look at the centre of the full-res samples or the 2x zoom samples from Xiaomi 13 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro and compare them to those from Xperia 1 V. There's a world of difference in terms of the resolved details between the formers and the latter.

It's like all 50 xp... moreI wouldn't call myself a fanboy, but this is phone is far more interesting to me than my current Xperia 1 III. Overall thermal management and picture quality seems much better. That said, my fingerprint scanner started dying a few weeks ago. At this point Sony is recommending a hard reboot to determine if it's a software or hardware issue. That in itself is a pretty hard pill to swallow for me, as I have a lot of various dedicated apps that are specifically tied to the phone. I will say, having a clean screen without a punch hole or cutout is just so much more elegant than the alternatives. Also, most people just dismiss or discount the utility of an SD card and a headphone jack. For those of us that care, it's amazing. Personally the idea of a cell phone that touts less as a "feature" is nonsense. In fairness though, Sony has sh*t update and support promises. Well, here's hoping I get the fingerprint sensor working again!

So it's not hard to know with some real life experience as reference.
              Not saying that every color and situation is perfect, just that overall look is close to what I expect to see with my eyes.

                  Take a look at GSMA photo examples of the mos famous snail shot. Pay attention to perforated building in the distance and take a look at that horrible color moire pattern banding behind the holes on S23 Ultra, 13 Ultra and 14 Pro Max. It looks like there is some glossy holographic film material behind those holes. But there isnt

                  S23 Ultra: At the very right side of the building there is a huge spot of blue/yellow moire pattern due to bad pixel binning. Also wholes are oversharpened to oblivion that I get a headache just looking at this image

                  13 Ultra: 1 inch sensor or not this is the worst offender in creating color moire banding pattern. There is a whole rainbow behind those wholes and it looks aweful. Phone shows something that isn't there

                  14 Pro Max: Different kind of moire pattern with magenta and green also prominent by the end of the building.

                              Reception is better than mark2, the generation considered the best among the 4 previous.

                                S Yu, 16 May 2023It makes no sense...unless this is Sony's public admis... more50MP mode on S23 Ultra seems pretty good, the same goes for Apple's 48MP ProRAW and 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode on the now over-4-year-old Honor View 20. The 2x zoom on Find X6 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra looks pretty decent as well. Other manufacturers seem to use more precise stacking/pixel shift/ML-powered demosaicing to extract a greater amount of details out of QB sensor, whereas Sony is straight-up giving up on it from the get-go.

                                I guess Xperia can't have features that are not on their own dedicated cameras, because for them Xperia is like "The RX series but a phone"🤷‍♂ They are making themselves look incompetent by making this move, IMO.

                                  Software cannot beat hardware. It doesn't matter if you have 2 inch sensor if the lens cannot pass on enough light. An f1.5 lens would've not needed a huge sensor or so much time for taking a night picture. The f1.9 lens will allow less light into the sensor and obviously will be it's weak point. As is proved in this review, the night shots are poor. In actual scenarios where we don't get 4 or 5 seconds to take a shot, we will end up with blurry mess of photos.

The purpose of the notification LEDs is that you can see notifications when the screen is off. Why do you want false notification LEDs when the screen is on?
