the device are expected to commence on May 23, coinciding with its launch in India. Motorola Edge 40 boasts a 6.55-inch curved OLED display with an FHD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, primary 50MP sensor, 32MP front-facing camera.

But can you open the notifications or just view them?

DroidBoye, 19 May 2023IDK why Motorola Edge 40 @ 600 Euros has very little differ... moreI Bought legion y70 at rm1250 or around 280$ from online shopping app and the stereo speaker quality is the best ever out from my previous phone n20u, poco f3 and even my friend's most expensive s23u phone.

Fa14bi, 19 May 2023I prefer Motorolas solution of AOD than what is normally is... moreArent they just what all AoD do?

My find x5 has all icons with notifications lined up at the bottom (including play store, web browser, even my banking app, just any notifications from whatever source i want it to show). Can change music track from it (i know oppo worked closely with spotify for spotify integration). I love mine whkch also shows you hoe many unlocks youve had through the day. If my phone doesnt move for about a minute itll turn the AoD off too to save battery and does so if put in to a pocket.

Didnt realise these were wanted features.

IDK why Motorola Edge 40 @ 600 Euros has very little difference with my Lenovo Legion Y70 which can be bought for only 322USD here in SEA. The camera spec for example were very similar but my cheaper phone has 8k30/4k60 recording, higher battery runtime and overall better performance just because it has 8+gen1.

Anonymous, 19 May 2023"The Edge 40 put up a solid performance in GeekBench, ... moreLmao what a stupd comparison, first of all poco x3 GT is 2 years old phone, it cost half the price moto ask, it gets 2 major android updates as of currently. MIUI ram consumption is normal i can switch back to game i played after left my phone for 3 hours in the same state, well if you say bug almost all phone had bug even the google pixel one had major bug that occasionally posted here in gsmarena lol. People hating for xiaomi is pretty discerning maybe they want to go back to samsung J series era trash phone without any update and overpriced.

Currently use poco x3 GT without any major bug and maybe restarted once in a month not even want to buy new phone as it perfom good and can run any game in the play store (honkai star rail and genshin run pretty good)

Weird that this should be €600 and the Pixel 7a should be €510, because in my country (Hungary) the Edge 40 costs about €530, while the Pixel 7a is about €600-610.

"The Edge 40 has a simple dual camera setup on the back - a 50MP wide primary unit and a 13MP ultrawide one, with no telephoto and no 'depth' or 'macro' nonsense."
I, for one, would prefer telephoto over ultrawide. I prefer close-up shots of statues, specific architectural peculiarities and straight up portraits over... I don't know, gimmicks? Sometimes UW is useful (for example, taking a picture of an entrance to a building that is impossible to take from a longer distance due to objects being in the way) but those situations are very rare for me personally. Usually there's enough space to take a shot from a different angle (and, usually, main camera is miles better than ultrawide).

PS: no headphone jack is a hard pass.

Anonymous, 19 May 2023"The Edge 40 put up a solid performance in GeekBench, ... moreImagine how proud this guy anonymous gqb comparing almost 2 years old $300 phone to $550 phone.

a lot of stuff going on within 2 years, you get a more stable OS, better cooling etc.. not to mention X3 GT is one of the best performance back in the days.

Why did they omit 10 bit display which was the main selling point of motorola phones ?

Fa14bi, 19 May 2023I just tried to find how to open app out of Samsung AoD and... moreIn this case, I gave an example from an LG smartphone.
Unfortunately, there are no new lg smartphones, and my current one is not eternal. Therefore, I am looking at the models that are most similar in functionality and customization capabilities. AOD is one of the top priority functions for me

Utm77, 19 May 2023Perhaps you have not encountered a normal AOD? It can do al... moreI just tried to find how to open app out of Samsung AoD and I haven't found anything to it.

On Moto, you tab the notification, drag it to the fingerprint reader which unlocks the phone and takes you directly to the App and Place to the app.

Like it does when you scroll down notifications and tab on one.

It appears to me on Samsungs you unlock your phone from AoD, then scroll down, and then tab on the notification, instead of just opening it directly out of the AoD screen (Atleast I haven't found anything to it).

Utm77, 19 May 2023Perhaps you have not encountered a normal AOD? It can do al... moreSo it's the same thing but always active on the table doesn't matter if you need it currently or not? Atleast it's not as bad as I thought.

The Moto display can be activated in the following ways: You tab the phone, you move the phone (like out of your pocket, you knock at the table instead of the phone), the way it works on moto it takes around 1% battery per 2 days.

Fa14bi, 19 May 2023I prefer Motorolas solution of AOD than what is normally is... morePerhaps you have not encountered a normal AOD? It can do all of the mentioned below. Including switching tracks and turning off in your pocket.
And besides, if the phone is on the table, I don't need to touch it to see if there are notifications.

Utm77, 19 May 2023Nice midranger, except curved screen and the lack of AODI prefer Motorolas solution of AOD than what is normally is.

-Shos data, time, battery, notifications and when tabbing on it you can also open the app, read the notification (if not a message from a person), but also change music tracks in it.

It is active for 3 secounds after moving the phone, lr after you stopped using it.

If the phone moves repeatedly in the same way (like walking in your pocket), the screen won't turn on. Which saves battery and makes it only active while you actually need it.

Why would I want my screen to be active while it is in my Pocket as well, I just don't get the purpose of a screen that is on All the time.

Otherwise, don't like the curves either.

My X7 Max (w/ D1200) also scored 1240/3370 in GB6 in HP mode!
                                  I don't know why they didn't simply put a D1300 or D8100 instead?!

                                    When the D8020 < D8000🤦🏻‍♂️ !!

Idk what has happened to MTK's naming division lately, they seem to have been inspired by these Chinese OEMs on just rebranding & renaming without any care for product position within the existing nomenclature!
I mean just how many times would they rename the same chip–D900/D920/D930/D1080 for example?
And then they had that one-off US exclusive D1050 which may actually be on par with the D1200/D1300 (again a rebrand just for higher MPx support), in terms of GPU!

"The Edge 40 put up a solid performance in GeekBench, posting notably higher results than that Poco X3 GT..."

It's no surprise how buggy MIUI for Poco can be despite multiple updates. By contrast, Motorola's stock AOSP UI doesn't consume as much memory as MIUI for Poco. You really don't have to go far to see how vastly improved Xiaomi phone's performance when using custom ROM with stock AOSP UI. It's a completely night and day experience.
