Here's an idea: Google should release the Pro, standard and 'a' variants of the Pixel phone at the same time. Preferably during Q3 of the year, when the latest Android version is ready.

Only release another phone in the middle of the product cycle if it's another color.

    Learn this from Apple.

I expect better battery life, since it's stock Android with no preinstalled crapware.

Unfortunately, the real bottleneck of Pixel phones is the Tensor (rebadged Exynos) chip, expect inferior thermal dissipation, performance and battery drain compared to the competition.

Not sure if Pixel 8's Tensor G3 will be much of an improvement. Die shrink to 4nm but still manufactured by Samsung.

The battery life seems beyond terrible. How is it even possible because the 6a has much better endurance scores than this. This is supposed to be an improvement over it and not the other way back

Google, 30 May 2023Google had better be careful, releasing almost the same ide... morePixel 7a IS sort of a disaster. It shouldn't be a nerfed version of the Pixel 7, which it is. They gave 7a a more powerful main sensor, so Gcam processing should produce the same top-notch results. Instead, we got more detail but slightly worse image tuning and more unstable/finicky video quality. But it should be better than the 7, only losing to the 7 Pro in Super Res Zoom beyond 2x zoom quality.

Pixel 5 and 5a had the exact same performance and everything else, minus the headphone jack difference. Which is how they should've handled 7 and 7a.

It's not like Google is short of money, the competition won't be waiting or holding back on specifications.

Google Pixel is not Google main source of income, but if you enter the market as a niche or complementary supplier at least put forward products that show you are serious.

With the Samsung "A" range you can see the what the next upgrade offers, if you want more you go for a 'higher' number.

Pixel 8 will be the big reveal, or fool me once ..

How can an ... moreYes im not a 5 year old child, i understand what it means and so did the other commenter. You literally contradicted yourself in your own comment so its quite obvious you do not sir (nor explained why you just said "miui is generic, pixelOS isnt".

Pixels software has nothing unique or distinctive about it, every phone can look like it and have 95% of all its features, MINIMUM, by just having android. Theres no unique hardware features when all the parts in the SoC are literally from the exynos series (the tensor 1 was literally exynos 990 with same security chip/co processors, external modem etc).

MIUI is one of the most customisable android variants you can use with more festure sets than pixelOS so yes you do not understand the term, no problem these things happen. 🙂

The truth is that Google tried to do some gimmicks on previous generations of Pixel phones by introducing co-processors(the Pixel Visual Core and later Neural Core) and all of those Google-designed chips failed. They even removed the driver code from their device after a certain update. Maybe better integrated?

So they tried to collaborate with someone else to produce a processor with built-in Google-designed ISP and AI accelerator. Qualcomm refused to change their design specifically for Google. So they collaborated with Samsung Exynos, and Samsung also needed someone to pay the bill for development and keep the dev team active. Don't forget in the future years Samsung flagships will be powered by Qualcomm.

How can an original software without further any customisation from OEM can be described as generic ? If you're talking about Xiaomi MIUI being a generic version of Android then it can be okay because it is, but to call Google's stock OS as generic is just lame, and of course, wrong

JoXim, 26 May 2023This GSMArena endurance ratings totally lost me.Because their battery endurance testing is very flawed. I mean 76 hours overall rating is 3 days which in actual real world means maybe a day of battery (so maybe 3-5 hours SoT time with an average persons usage and total about 12-14 with standby included from 100%-0%, we'll never know though because GSM dont want real world stats to give you).

My find x5 atm is at 1h 40mins SoT from 100-75%, total usage is 4h 20 mins and thats with157 apps installed (more apps more battery consumption), a constant vpn on, using tidal music app for 3 hours 15 mins (using bluetooth headphones), web browser for 2 hours 20 mins (64 tabs open) and a messaging app for 1 hour 20 mins (top 3 used apps since full charge).

Supposedly i get 108 hours endurance so that should hopefully help anyone understand how bad the pixel will perform in the real world battery wise (and thats including the insanely slow charging vs my 35 min charges from 0-100%).

FYI you can get the find x5 for about £300-400 with 256gb storage new and is a completely better experience than pixelOS (from actual user experience) and also cheaper (pixel 7a is around £420-£460).
