Anonymous, 10 Aug 2023Again, you are missing the point. And I said "to me p... moreSorry, sweetheart, but you're not gonna weasel out of this. Your perception of an item's value, which is completely detached from components' real world value and manufacturing costs, is not a supply and demand model you speak of. It's only your layman's wishful thinking that a top-shelf hardware should cost peanuts because you fail to acknowledge hardware, manufacturing and shipping costs. Did I mention R&D?

You could stop at Porsche's and try to convince them their Cayman should cost half-a-Yaris, because you think that junk isn't worth that much, with similar laughter flying back at you. Try to then tell them your decision to not buy it at your demanded dumping price is the supply and demand model at work. Get an umbrella for the inevitable burst of laughter.

Reading between the lines of what you're saying, my impression is that you don't like the bending phone concept at the core. And if you actually took a step back, thought about what it is that you dispute, and coherently formed that into an argument like that - I wouldn't bat an eye because those phones have enough compromises to be an item of special consideration, and are definitely not for everyone if for cost alone. That would be an excellent example of personal preference. But you didn't; you decided that because you don't like something, you'll take the most rudimentary, coarse argument one can find: I don't like it so it's not worth the asking price, they should sell it dirt-cheap. Can't any more lazy than that.

Akarius, 09 Aug 2023Yes, "Samsung spokesperson" :D That white-and-bla... moreAgain, you are missing the point.
And I said "to me personally", expressing my personal thoughts.

And you are wrong, the world does funktion like that, ever heard of supply and demand? Well thats the demand part

Example for you; if a phone X comes out and nobody buys it in the lets say 30 days, 0 sales, what do you think happens?
And if everybody rush to buy it and you can not get one cause its sold out, what do you think then happens?
Where is your "objective value" then?

The truth is only certain people in Samsung know what the phone really costs to make. Everybody else is just guessing. You dont know the discount they get from suppliers, you dont know what kind of contracts they have with who. Its all specilation.
So maybe it costs 5$ to make maybe 50$. It doesnt really matter if the customer is willing to spend only xy amount on it. But sadly we live in a world where people don't use their heads and they just consume what ever BS story is served to them.
Thats how we got 1000$+ smarphones when all things considered the max should be 100-200$ (again, dont be looking only at the US standard, its bonkers high but thats only like 5% of the population)

I had used the Z flip 5 in a Samsung store, and cannot even see the crease when viewing it at a normal angle.

At least use the phone before blabbering dogshit.

The pros vs cons on this isn't relevant as long as your flagship sized candybar phone sticks two inches out of your pocket when you try to bring it anywhere.

He calculate... moreYes, "Samsung spokesperson" :D That white-and-black perception of surrounding reality makes me think nuances are a tough chapter in your book. Couple that with "it's worthless to me because I don't want it" attitude and it's clear as day objective value is an alien concept to your. Sadly, in real world, whether you want something or not is irrelevant to objective value of an item. Don't want it, don't buy it, just stop painting it like your subjective opinion is an objective fact. It's not.

raz, 09 Aug 2023It's not about feeling, dumba$$ even if the crease fee... moreThe humongous win is, my Flip5 display folds. It is literally half the size when I don't use it. Which is bliss for ANYONE with normal-sized pockets. Flagship phones are just too huge these days and using a phone with a tiny six inch display is not an option with current apps and website designs. So, the unrivalled best solution is to fold the display, with the small trade-off being a crease being visible in off-angles and bright environments.

How you can feel fine looking at the crease when you're texting or watching? Are you that hypocrite xD? I'm not! If there's one bubble in my phone because of my mistake, or little scratch on tempered glass I replaced with new one. Its eyesore and annoying, same with that crease.

Akarius, 08 Aug 2023I love this type of comments, they're so detached from... moreWell Samsung spokeperson, it is what it is.

He calculated it, Samsung offered it, and they also made a profit, so in reality its worth less then 50$ to make and pay for labour and all
Otherwise they wouldnt sell it for 50$ now would they?
                          Pure Logic

To me personally its worth even less couse A: I don't want it and B: it doesn't have what I look for in a phone
So I personally would not pay even 50$ for it

Now when you calculate the inflation, recession and the current state in the World (don't look only at the US please) you would see that 50$ for this is still on the high side, regardless of what Samsung says the Bill of materials is or what not
Also add to that the fact that technology is getting cheaper by the minute and if you use your head you will understand where the money goes (hint, not for the materials or the design or whatever marketing they sell you)

In what world top-of-the-shelf CPU and a bending screen - a technology on researching which probably hundreds of millions of fat dollars were spent, all enclosed in a body that is undergoing 340k open/close cycles after being bathed in dirt and operated under water for 30 minutes, and then used in in a 60°C environment (see MrKeybrd test on Youtube), and is still going strong despite it all, and despite Samsung's claim it should last at least 200k is at 340k, so nearly double the claimed longevity - that's all worth $100 to you?

I can bet this trippy amount of yours isn't even close to the bill of materials for this device, but let that not discourage you from the daydreaming prices you're coming up with. A hearty laugh always has a chance to make someone's day.

Venturing out to import a Chinese brand that has no warranty or service centers in your country is a somewhat risky business on a slab phone, let alone a folding one. Can't blame anyone for not loving this sort of thrill.
Ask yourself, if you want a foldable Android phone - with warranty - what other choice is there? Samsung, Motorola, Honor. Not an awfully long list, you must admit, and of the three, Samsung is the most experienced in software for folding phone.
Does it really surprise you that it's the go-to choice for so many? That they don't want Chinese bloatware on a vaporware phone with no warranty or repair center in the 1000 miles radius? I can't blame them.

Samsung is also still years ahead on foldables. Case in point is that ongoing durability test by Mrkeybrd on YouTube. The "big" contender, the Razr+ started failing on the first day. The Flip5 is still going strong six days later.

The reality is, all of these Galaxy Flip and Fold conders are only good at blowing hot air. Including the Pixel Fold, also clearly not hardware tested properly before launch.

It's easy to make a paper launch of a folding glass phone. It is hard to make something that'll work for years and years, for tens of millions of users.
