Super Android 22, 07 Aug 2023Confused with how gsm have done this review.
So it shou... moreIt's hard to compare a real purchasable phone with Chinese vapourware.
Samsung is also still years ahead on foldables. Case in point is that ongoing durability test by Mrkeybrd on YouTube. The "big" contender, the Razr+ started failing on the first day. The Flip5 is still going strong six days later.
The reality is, all of these Galaxy Flip and Fold conders are only good at blowing hot air. Including the Pixel Fold, also clearly not hardware tested properly before launch.
It's easy to make a paper launch of a folding glass phone. It is hard to make something that'll work for years and years, for tens of millions of users.

Confused with how gsm have done this review.
So it should be getting compared to every and all purchasable flip phone, instead gsm choose JUST the moto razr (ive said they're starting to push motorola hard) and a galaxy s23 (shouldnt be anywhere near the comparisons, so so obvious its product pushing). Is it because it gets beaten by some "chinese" flip phones in a lot of important areas and that could affect product sales with the size of your site... Most likely. I mesn why is the zenfone there, its not a flip. Such strange behaviour.
To sum it up like every samsung device, its average, nothing really to shout about but they need dominance/monopoly so try hide the issues/flaws and keep pushing the devices.

@ GSMARENA.
Thank you very much for for in-depth review. What I'm confused about, is you "great camera experience" The output of the camera from the Flip 5 is only medium, but not great at all. While the main camera is one of the better ones, the zoom and the ultra-wide is nothing to praise. The parallel usage of the words "great", "camera" and "Flip5" is totally misleading and inappropriate. That is my statement after looking at the pictures being provided in the test (in 100% mode on an monitor), which shows the typical "Samsung illness" in terms of picture rendering & processing. Simply horrible!

Syuser, 06 Aug 2023ZERO camera improvement! Xperia 10 class have better daylig... moreYou have an absolutely wrong perspective and are entirely unaware of it.
The truth is somewhat different: majority of people are not interested in which Snapdragon gen their CPU is, how many cores it has, how many megapixels the camera has or how many mAh their batteries have.
Our community here, comprising of individuals that like to thoroughly examine their purchase beforehand, are a minority. Vocal one, but a minority. Samsung sold enough z Fold4s to shower each of us in hundreds (if not thousands) of them on average, that's how small the engaged community is.
Average human's perspective is that if a camera produces images that you are happy about, they absolutely don't care whether last model is 5% worse and 15% cheaper. When it's time to change their phone, they change it and mostly based on experience with brand and model they had previously.
So you may be running around, screaming at the top of your lungs why this 12,1% increase in image quality is not enough of a progress to justify new model. It doesn't matter. Vast majority of cash is where the people you would call "tech ignorant" are. They drive the market. They represent the pulling buying force. You and I, with our thorough technical analysis and informed decision purchases, are not the core of Samsung's sales.
The sooner you accept the reality for what it is, the better for you and your feeling of entitlement to be the oracle-of-all purchase criteria.

magnaroader, 06 Aug 2023I thought the RAZR in that experiement died because of the hinge? The Razr+ died because of several terrible design issues. Its bad hinge was putting unhealthy strain on its folding glass display, causing it to get an early micro fracture and a few dead pixels.
The final nail in the coffin for the Razr+ was when huge amounts of dust got stuck underneath the display when they did a dust resistance test at 100k flips. This exposed Motorola's fraudulent IP52 rating, falsely claiming it was dust resistant. The display bulged up around the hinge and cracked, causing the display to get a wide dead line of pixels across the whole display.
During that dust torture test the Flip5 got a lot of dust stuck inside the hinge, causing the ovine to be unable to close properly. It did however not damage the display. When they got to 200k flips it was put through a water torture test. It was submerged in water for an extended time while they kept flipping the phone. This also didn't damage the Flip5, but instead cleaned out the dust inside the hinge, allowing it to close properly again. 😁
That ongoing marathon test exposed the difference between a thoroughly tested design by Samsung and a terribly designed phone by Motorola.

After enough bends back and forth, I think that any material would develop faults and stress weaknesses on the hinge line. Anyone have thoughts on this concern?

I pre-ordered a Flip 5. I got the $50 pre-order discount, plus $900 for my Flip 4, plus a free 512gb storage upgrade. So for $50, I got a new phone. The bigger screen will be great to have.
