Moto G84 review

Biggest drawback of Motorola phones in general is it's pathetic updates policy.
This one is launched at Android 13 and Moto will update to Android 14 only. After that only security updates.
I mean 14 will be out in few days. What's the point of releasing at 13 when only 1 OS update is planned. In that case they should have launched this bit late with Android 14 and should have upgraded to 15 next year.
It would have been a better deal then.
Seriously, I feel they are themselves killing the brand and it's fan base.

Just buy Samsung A34 or A52s, for less price than this... For the latest one, you still have Android 14 upgrade + 1 year of security updates, much more than this "phone" will ever get.

MakeMotoBetterAgain, 27 Sep 2023The closest we have in the states is Edge 2022 it's $2... moreThe best value Android phones in the USA were the Nokia G50, Nokia G310 and Nokia G400 at $150, as well as the Nokia X100 at $170 unlocked. It's hard to find 5G phones, let alone decent Snapdragon phones at that price point, in an extremely uncompetitive market.
There are those Wingtech-based Samsung and Motorola-branded phones, that are extremely overpriced for what they offer.
After all, people in the USA have better standards of living, has the ability to afford technology over $1000 (not counting the immigrant/homeless minority) and thrives on marketing tactics, hence why Apple has a significant advantage in terms of pricing and brand value, where at least 95% of people in the world use Android, since there aren't any alternatives.
I personally think that bullying, based on the devices a person owns should be stopped, because it's extremely tone deaf and manipulative.

Caeruleum7125, 26 Sep 2023>$245 I'm assuming that's in US dollars? Obvi... moreThe closest we have in the states is Edge 2022 it's $250 at Best Buy and has a better processor but less RAM no SD slot/a 3.5 jack, I feel like in the US Motorola doesn't have to try. since Xiaomi and others Chinese brands don't exist (cough cough auctions) and Samsung and OP having reduced lineups. in the EU for 250 euros you get a 12 GB 256 GB oled system with a midrange processor, but in the US for $250 you get 3 GB LCD 64 GB, Apple is just damaging the US Andriod market. Almost everyone in America owns an iPhone and their users have a really tight bond with Apple, it's just next to impossible to crack into. If you own an Andriod in America you get bullied and mocked for it and called poor. The green message problem is also really major here than in the EU.

Anonymous, 26 Sep 2023Tell qualcomm to give us 2x A720 @2.0GHz + 6 x A520 1.7GHz These new ARM cores are still too messy to put in the midrange. Qualcomm tried it with the SD 7 Gen 1 and it wasn't very good, the original A710/A510 combo had worse efficiency than the good old A78/A55. Combined with the less optimized Samsung fab process it gave a chip with bad thermals and mediocre efficiency, you can look up the benchmarks in the site.
There's the A715, and that's where I would put my hopes in for Qualcomm and Mediatek to bring midrage SoCs with that core, plus the revised A510.
The A720/A520 combo supports 64-bit apps only, so older apps that never got 64-bit releases will be unusable. They might be hesitant to bring these cores to the midrange segment, at least for now. SD 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 will have them though so full adoption across all market segments should take one or two years, ideally.

I might actually have to buy this one, in theory the A54 is much better but for emulation Exynos phones are awful
(I'm not even considering getting Xiaomi, too much bloat)

If only Qualcomm had used the same ISP/DSP of the 720G/730G/732G series on the 695. An entire generation of phones wouldn't feel so bad.

Anonymous, 26 Sep 2023Is it the best phone?
No
But honestly at €255 (256/12... moreWith weak I mean performance back then vs price back then.
12gb ram was insane back then, and still is for this price.

Is it the best phone?
No
But honestly at €255 (256/12) I can’t complain that much, at least not in the current phone market.
4 years ago this would be weak, some high end LG and Motorola phones often dropped way below €400 then, but those days are sadly over (I miss LG)

>$245
I'm assuming that's in US dollars? Obviously it's not going to be sold in the US and that makes me really jealous. This thing has 12GB of RAM, a camera with OIS, and an OLED display for $5 less than the Moto G 5G (basically just a low-spec Moto G53). Crazy.

It offers a lot for those who are looking for an upgrade from basic to midrange phone, but almost nothing in comparison with other Motorola phones and other brands under the same price tag.
The only disappointing choice here is SD695. Motorola could have used other chipset, but for daily usage and moderate gaming, it's still capable.
