You can find my comparisons with expertraw, camera app and GCAM on xda forum. I have S23 Ultra and processing in ExpertRAW is just bad. And yes, RAW from ExpertRAW is not true RAW. It has embedded preprocessing, which you cannot undo.

      Scalanova, 08 Nov 2023I have 23 ultra?nah, you surely don't.

otherwise, you wouldn't call it a toy, because it completely isn't.

        justasmile, 07 Nov 2023Ok Samsung hater.I have 23 ultra?

          Beautiful phone

            I swear.

Scalanova, 04 Nov 2023Exactly, incredible toy with a lot of joy.. Ok Samsung hater.

Livius, 07 Nov 2023What phone would you recommend for pictures? Almost every reviewer including GSMarena is praising Samsung's camera quality. I don't think Samsung or anyone else cares about your opinion.

"But as improved as the Galaxy S23 Ultra is over its predecessor - it remains fundamentally the same phone."

This kind of statement can be slapped on every iPhone review. In fact it suits iPhones better.

This review really stands out in all of the internet, in regards to this ultimate piece of personal tech. Well done GSMA

Nick Tegrataker, 06 Nov 2023Samsung tripling down on oversharpening with subsequent cam... moreWhat do you expect? They placed their bets on the megapixel race and lost. 200 megapixels is too much even for a full frame camera. Binning will never be the same as real large pixels.

64mp (4x bin=16mp) is as far as it should have gone and even then that is too much.

The ExpertRAW files you posted are still horribly over sharpened. What a joke. They are not RAW at all, they are partially processed JPEGS in a container for some non destructive existing. But they are already processed, so they'll aren't RAW at all.

                              Very nice long-term review.

                              I have two questions, though:

                              1. Batteries tend to degrade over time and It would be hugely interesting and useful to know how batter life has evolved over the entire time-span and thus repeat the same battery tests that have been done during the initial review of the phone.

                              2. In an other article here at GSMArena (camera comparison between Galaxy S23 Ultra and Google 8Pro) you wrote that its been software updates over time that actually worsened camera performance on the galaxy S 23 phone - it became more artificial of sorts.

Is this something this reviewer has experienced as well, a drop in camera performance over time?

Regarding GCam, yes, it does work on the S23 Ultra (and S23/+). Good support too since it uses a Snapdragon SoC.

I'm using BigKaka's GCam 8.8 (search for "bigkaka gcam celsoazevedo" and you'll find it) with one of the config files from that site. For pictures, I think it's better than the stock camera app, but it always depends on the config file you use. For video, I think the stock app is better.

I couldn't agree more regarding the camera.

I have been literally bombarding Samsung regarding the crap image quality whole S23 series produces with both photos and videos with no effect. Images are oversharpened, oversaturated, have too much contrast, lack details and is just unpleasant to look at.

The colors literally burn eyes, literally. You take the photo of golden autumn leaves and you end up having whitenish mess that literally burn eyes because of being oversharpened and bumped contrast when you look at it. Yellow/bronze/green foliage is more white than yellow/bronze/green. Videos are the same. Besides excellent stabilization - the image is moreless the same as photos.

The camera department is the worst I ever saw on a flagship smartphone and pathethic thing is that every damn reviewer on the web just praises how good it is. This is insane.

AlexS, 06 Nov 2023Can you install a GCam mode in a Samsung phone?Yes, you can get GCam but it's only good for still pictures and nothing else (meaning you can't replace the stock app with this). The pictures it takes are amazing though, night and day compared to what the stock app puts out. I've started using GCam a lot more than the stock app now due to this, I only ever use the stock Camera app if I need to do anything other than still pictures or need to take a picture in a pinch.
