But if they made a 1300-1400 USD phone with those specs and a 512 GB base storage or at least 256 GB base storage I think there'd be a strong contender in the camera front.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2023Since the Pixel 6 Pro, Google has changed the periscope cam... moreThe Xiaomi 14 Ultra's periscope camera has an effective lens diameter that is even 43% larger than the effective diameter of the 7 Pro's 116.5mm 48 megapixel (probably 48.8) camera. This means that theoretically, regarding diffraction, it would make sense to make a (116.5/120)² * 48.8 megapixel * 1.43² = 94 megapixel 120mm camera.
It would be really fascinating to see a 94 megapixel 120mm Quad Bayer camera in the Pixel 9 Pro, but that's just a wish.

If you're connected to some small carrier that makes you climb up half a dozen providers before you get to the backbone, or you live somewhere in the hinterlands of the planet, your internet connection will be delayed. For a Note 3, for a Pixel 8 Pro, for a dual-CPU power desktop - the delay isn't in the device.

The trend Google has taken is understandable = more profit, less expenses; however it is the buyers that are again acting as beta testers, as 3 generations in a raw Google is incapable of delivering a strong competent SoC.

Pi... moreYou're absolutely right, Google should just stick with making software because since ditching Qualcomm in favor of their lackluster tensor, their pixel phones have had many issues. As a proud owner of Google's last Qualcomm powered phone(pixel 5) which still performs good, I will not buy another pixel phone unless it's Qualcomm powered because quite simply, tensor sucks.

As a proud owner of Google's last Qualcomm powered pixel phone(pixel 5 powered by 765G) which still performs great today, Google's downfall was ditching Qualcomm and replacing it with the lackluster and faulty tensor chip which has a history of being flawed causing many issues, something that my pixel 5 never had. So with that said, I'm not surprised pixel 8 pro pales in comparison to phones powered by 8 Gen 3. As a Qualcomm loyalist who's owned many Qualcomm powered phones that performed good, my next pixel phone will have to be Qualcomm powered and not tensor because tensor simply fails to measure up to Qualcomm which has a long history of being the leader of android based phones.

I fiddle with this phone constantly and I find the battery life to be excellent.. at par with or better than my old Galaxy A34, which scored higher in the battery charts

Had this phone for a month now. I can honestly say this: great phone generally speaking, but damn, GSM/4G/5G radio is trash!
IM messages via FB, WA, IG, etc come in late, really late.
                        Seriously bad!

Shamrock Sean, 03 Jan 2024Why is everyone going on about thermals?? I've had abs... moreHere it is past winter solstice zero thermal issues exist as it should... As soon as it becomes 120F daily good luck recording a video longer than 60s.

The only mobile phones I've ever used in the last decade that have zero thermal issues... Meaning i can use them in direct sunlight on a charger recording a fhd video at 60fps are LGs, the g8x and v40. I'm yet to test a v60 but i bet with their also mil-std-810 thermal rating the v60 should perform the same... I wish flagships would bring back that extra mile of durability...

Very poor from Google they are actually going backwards. Pixel 8 pro has strange issue like heating, hotspot not switching on, camera does not have photo sphere feature which was available even in pixel 5
I have contacted Google few time for resolution with no response
Overall Google is better off being software company

I find the battery life absolutely fine if you switch off wi-fi scanning, I'm getting the same as my old Samsung

joe nodden, 31 Oct 2023They just had to be stubborn and keep going with Samsung eh... moreYeah, pairing with Samsung for the chip is not great. My guess is when they wanted to do a customized chip, Samsung was more willing than Qualcomm. Also, since Google is now encroaching on Samsung's phone sales they went with Samsung to keep peace in the realm. I can't really see an easy way for Pixels to improve their efficiency with the current arrangement.

Flagship price for flagship killer processor and horrendous thermals ✅
Seriously, stop trying to cram more power, take a break from smartphones for a year and design a chipset with the same power but far more efficiency. Destroy Apple in terms of performance per watt, get better thermals and battery and no one would complain much.
Cameras and user experience is top notch, perfect for an 800 USD phone, but the chip makes it a horrible deal for 1000 USD. Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are the new kings now that Google has joined Apple and Samsung in milking consumers.
