Very poor from Google they are actually going backwards. Pixel 8 pro has strange issue like heating, hotspot not switching on, camera does not have photo sphere feature which was available even in pixel 5
I have contacted Google few time for resolution with no response
Overall Google is better off being software company

I find the battery life absolutely fine if you switch off wi-fi scanning, I'm getting the same as my old Samsung

joe nodden, 31 Oct 2023They just had to be stubborn and keep going with Samsung eh... moreYeah, pairing with Samsung for the chip is not great. My guess is when they wanted to do a customized chip, Samsung was more willing than Qualcomm. Also, since Google is now encroaching on Samsung's phone sales they went with Samsung to keep peace in the realm. I can't really see an easy way for Pixels to improve their efficiency with the current arrangement.

Flagship price for flagship killer processor and horrendous thermals ✅
Seriously, stop trying to cram more power, take a break from smartphones for a year and design a chipset with the same power but far more efficiency. Destroy Apple in terms of performance per watt, get better thermals and battery and no one would complain much.
Cameras and user experience is top notch, perfect for an 800 USD phone, but the chip makes it a horrible deal for 1000 USD. Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are the new kings now that Google has joined Apple and Samsung in milking consumers.

Since the Pixel 6 Pro, Google has changed the periscope camera hardware every year. I hope that they improve it when the Pixel 9 Pro is released because I like my Panasonic Zs60 for taking photos of birds at 720mm and the smaller the difference the better.
For example a 120mm camera with a 64 megapixel sensor might let you zoom 18% more than the 7 Pro. That's also an improvement that is realistic because the effective lens diameter of the 8 Pro is 18% larger than on the 7 Pro, but the 8 Pro has a slightly smaller focal length than the 7 Pro.
A recent article from Samsung suggested that there could be a 200 megapixel 70mm camera in the future, but currently, one can't really say whether the image quality at for example 360mm (15x) would be better: The effective lens diameter needs to be large due to diffraction and I am not sure how good the color reproduction would be with a Tetra²Pixel sensor. Of course, one could also produce a 200 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor (instead of Tetra²Pixel array). Though, it could be possible that due to diffraction, the difference between Tetra²Pixel and Quad Bayer would be neglectable.

The German “review institution” Connect measured excellent battery life on the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 👍

android auto is so awful if google cannot fix problems, it is not valuable to buy pixel.(there is a lot of software that android auto not supports them)

They are the most detailed crisp zoom images I've seen on any phone and I'm fussy about image quality. Using 50mp resolution the details are amazing

Why is no one mentioning the $600.00 depreciating after owning this 8 pro phone for 20 some days? Try and trade this phone in and it's only worth $450.00? I paid 1050.00 for this phone and out $600.00 in 20 some days.

Since the Pixel 6 Pro, I have the impression that Google doesn't really combine frames anymore in certain conditions.. I remember that I took HDR+ photos with the main camera of the 6 Pro and the exif showed an exposure time of 1/3s. So there wasn't enough time to combine multiple frames and indeed, a single frame dng file from a 3rd party app had the same noise. I experienced the same thing with the HDR+ raw file of the 6 Pro's periscope in low light conditions, distant objects had about the same noise as a Canon M50 + 45mm f/8 and that's what you would theoretically expect when no frames are combined...
I have a Pixel 7 Pro and surprisingly, I tested that in the 48mm HDR+ raw files, objects have slightly more noise than 48mm HDR+ raw files from the Pixel 3a! Even though the exif exposure time was identical and even though the 7 Pro captures 2.2 times as much light per exposure time from an object as the Pixel 3a and even though I downsampled the raw file of the 7 Pro in order to get the same effective noise-resolution. So I wonder whether at 48mm the Pixel 7 Pro actually combines frames at all and whether the Pixel 8 Pro has the same behaviour. I will have to compare my 7 Pro with the 8 Pro.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2023Battery life has been great for me, I end most days over 30... moreI think such kind of battery life is bad. I have about 30-40% battery left on a 4 years old Samsung Note10+ 5G after 12h. But, in the first year of owning it, I was able to use it for 2 days.
