I bought this monster yesterday and I can assure you it is a good phone from camera, display, chipset and battery life is simply amazing, Nubia brand is like OnePlus back then when they start selling smartphone.

Heck, I literally said in the other comment (which you probably didn't read) that 35mm is limiting for group photos and the difference between those two FLs is huge, we stand on the same ground so you don't need to get aggro about it lol.

Phones can only have a prime lens due to internal space restriction, meaning if a phone has a type 1 50MP camera with a 24mm lens, you're stuck with it you wouldn't be able to get the same depth of field, pixel density per field of view or light gathering per exposure as the same sensor paired with 35mm lens, assuming that the F-stop would be identical between the two, although like I already said having a wider lens will be more convenient for most people.

Nubia's current implementation is a bit flawed because it uses a substantially smaller sensor than its competition (type 1/1.56) which somewhat diminishes the point of having a 35mm FF equivalent lens to begin with, but if they could turn their prototype unit with a type 1 sensor AND 35mm lens into an actual product, it would be epic for sure - well, at least that's what I think.

And if the lens is "too wide" then it's easy to crop the photo so it looks like 35mm shot.
Also, today all cameras have so many megapixels that lens distortion correction is the norm without barely any photo quality degradation, even for pro DSLR cameras.
Going with a very narrow 35mm is a total misunderstanding of photography from Nubia's side, period.

They call the phone amazing, cameras all good and all that and the performance is good and all that. When the long-term review comes in, they trash the phone for being "laggy". I really don't understand the reviewers. nubia Z50S is a gem. 500 bucks for last years leading chipset is a STEAL!

Their rating system is kinda bad. S23 FE got 4.0 while the Poco F5 (far better phone) gets a 4.1! What kind of score is that. S23 deserves around 3.6 while Poco F5 gets at least 4.4; they rate phones based on their price segment more than the actual phone itself as well.

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2023Will there not be an Axon 50 Ultra? I want an under display... moreThe Axon 50 Ultra has been announced in April in case you live in a cave. And apparently it's China-only. And puncholes aren't ugly at all, nor distracting or annoying. The UD cam has very very bad quality, which doesn't really make it worth it

                        Thought it is Oppo

My old flagship that could be sold for that price got 3x 10mp and 10x 10mp, which is not up to today's resolutions, but if I compare that to this ''new'' phone, just why they sell it...

rosesarerosie, 08 Dec 2023The 40 Ultra was pretty good actually, I really liked itIt has higher RRP so the specs should definitely be better than this.

[deleted post]Looks like a camera phone. Honestly the phones you mentioned look far worse than that.

Nick Tegrataker, 09 Dec 2023The main advantage of 35mm is that it is narrow enough for ... moreoh no by "them" i meant smartphone manufacturers. And lemme tell you, the average joe is so dumb they won't notice the distance difference between 24 and 30 but would appreciate the quality (5% chance lol)

jiyen235, 09 Dec 2023yeah then they should go for 30mm, a solid middle ground th... moreThe main advantage of 35mm is that it is narrow enough for you to compose the subject easily in the frame without introducing a lot of warping from the perspective, while also being barely wide enough for you to use it as a day-to-day lens.

23-24mm, on the other hand, is the "make-everyone-happy" focal length which has its own sacrifices (Mainly when you want to isolate the subject from the background) but is certainly more versatile, hence widely regarded to be more suitable for a phone camera.

Z50S Pro stands out from the rest BECAUSE it has a native 35mm lens. It's a niche focal length and might make many average Joes unhappy - However, the phone offers something special that select people could appreciate, and widening it to 30mm somewhat breaks the entire point.

Nick Tegrataker, 09 Dec 202335mm could be fairly narrow and slightly uncomfortable if y... moreyeah then they should go for 30mm, a solid middle ground that offers better quality than 24 mm just by zooming in a little bit

Zuzuz, 08 Dec 2023You're completely wrong. Between 24 and 35mm is a smal... more"lossless" portrait is just an in sensor crop which is always 60-80% of the sensor's capabilities. Due to less pixel stacking/binning and it being a literal crop.

Also, I didn't say the difference is small, I said it isn't "so huge", it's big yes but not so big that you'll be crying. 1x to 3x sucks, maybe even 1x to 2x sucks but 24 to 35 is like 1.4 or 1.5x, it ain't too big my guy

Anonymous, 08 Dec 202323-25mm is too wide for my taste. I prefer 28 or 29. ... moreyeah I guess 30 would be the sweet spot and I mean we already have huge camera bumps, why not have something that we like in those bumps yk?
