Anonymous, 31 Dec 2023That's just one more excuse for them to cheap out thou... moreOh I understand having to put up with awful speakers (looking at you vivo). I guess my point is ranking the best sounding phones is kind of like ranking the tallest Hobbits. On that note, ROG Phone 7 and the other vintage phones that are getting accolades here happen to be on the thicker side (>1 cm). I'm no expert in loudspeakers but acoustically it makes sense that resonance for lower frequencies does require a larger space.

Everyone is different and some people want our rely on those things. It's casual for some and important for others.
They are just being cheap despite their price tags going crazy.
I know you're not saying it should be t that way.

My Asus Rog phone 7 speakers are so good

Vic.arena, 31 Dec 2023This is valid for the last 5 last years Since the end of L... moreThe ROG phones look like an ordinary flagship if you turn off the LED effects. I have mine set to glow just a tiny bit so I can find it in the dark. It's an ordinary slab like thing by day.
People always ask me if it's the new .

David, 31 Dec 2023I have never understood why anyone cares about the speakers... moreTotally agree, I'd prefer to be able to listen to music in the best quality using good headphones, not let people listen to my Yoda message tone in Dolby Surround

Mediatek sux, 30 Dec 2023Whatever, just post proof.you must be 15 year old commenting like that bcoz you never heard those sound in person...

pralea, 31 Dec 2023How about motorola e398, e1000, nokia 6234. The moto e398 l... moree398 launched in 2004 and yes all those phones you mentioned had great speakers and no current phone can match it..

This is valid for the last 5 last years
Since the end of LG, only ROG can beat Iphone( acording to reviewers), but never seen anybody with that gaming phone.
                  No contest.
                  Period.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2023Most phones has the big disadvantage that the speakers are ... moreIt was started by HTC, or we can say the front facing stereo speakers were the trademark of HTC, that was their identity, their unique feature. HTC One M7, M8 and few others.
Ever since they ditch this pattern/design, they are nowhere in the market. Don't know who was their design advisor.
Later Lenovo brought Vibe X3, was a great sounding device with its front facing quality speakers, sold like hotcake, but again Lenovo did the same thing that HTC did.
They are just chasing screen to body ratio thing or thin bezels, which is not a big concern for user, for me atleast

The question still remains, why is the ROG Phone 7 not even in the top 3 flagships?

From the included recording, it is clear that it has a better dynamic range, especially in the mid and low bass sectors, the treble is not as piercing as the iPhone and especially the Xiaomi.

why would casuals care about quality more than loudness ?
why would casuals care about best CPU/GPU more than experience ?
why would casuals care about best screen and refresh rate or color accuracy more than brightest ?
why would casuals care about battery life and quick charging when alot plug their phones 3 times a day ?

thing is they probably dont care about these specifically but are told about it and expect when they invest in the most expensive phone available they get their money worth ie best everything they could possibly have. so its natural to ask what is best hence we have an article like this.

the problem here is when the biggest and most prolific phone review site says best sounding = loudest sounding which every person should know is not true.

the article is misleading and an addition of shameful writing to what was once an honest source of reviews. i am sure casuals care about honest list of best sounding when they dont know tech and google best sounding phone get this and they believ it cause they are casuals as people put it here. people care, stop saying they dont. they just dont know they care which isnt an excuse to lie.

Nice post I appreciate your effort

Lewen.., 31 Dec 2023I dont why speaker is still not that essential to android..... moreMy own take is that multimedia (is that still a word?) consumption on a phone is supposed to be a casual thing, just like watching Netflix on a 6" screen is a casual thing, so is listening to music on phone speakers. That is, considering that even a cheap bluetooth speaker or a pair of earphones would elevate the listening experience considerably, maybe phone speakers that are handicapped at low frequencies anyway are not a high priority for the manufacturers.

I have never understood why anyone cares about the speakers on a phone for music purposes. All that matters is it rings loudly for a call and that you can hear people talking on speakerphone.

I care so much more about the internal DAC and headphone audio performance, something that nearly all companies don’t make an effort with. Very few dedicated DAC’s and headphone jacks anymore.

a proper healine for this post would be, the loudest smartphones of 2023 since your audio measurements are only related to loudness. not quality.

I appreciate this sound-comparison across various device categories quite a lot, as sound is actually as important part of the multimedia experience as is the video quality.
That being said, may I propose to the fine people at GSMArena to get into slightly more detail as to why and how they ranked the sound quality of devices.

Another extremely interesting aspect to be tested would be the audio recording quality. Every video recording depends on audio just as well. For example, we all know some amateur videos from live concerts that have been obviously taken on a phone and that sound quality literally crumbles under high sound pressure levels.
So maybe GSMArena could be among the first tech sites to extend their usual set of smartphone tests by the addition of some audio recording.

Best regards and happy new year!

I dont why speaker is still not that essential to android..we've seen this long before from apple starting from Iphone 9 or 10(X) i think..now,all of the iphone lineup from mobiles, tab,to Mac have thesame outstanding speakers as oppose, even Androids flagship barely just half as good..i mean if a good speaker would just cost another $100 then why not..not tech geek but this is just from my personal observations correct me or at least can some1 give a sensible elaboration as to why...?
