janeymac, 29 Mar 2024Nice phone but it's disappointing that they still have... moreits possible to turn them off. Even Samsung at times put them. That is not a big deal. Price is definitely a big deal. Its not a buy at 1500 bucks for sure. Surprisingly its more affordable in India at just under 100K rupees(~$1200) plus you get deals to get it even cheaper. There its cheaper than S24 ultra or 15 pro max.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2024Traded huawei flagship for crapmi? 😱1) Crapmi? Speak for yourself. It's an amazing phone for the price. The 2023 midrangers are faster than the 2019 flagships, and Note 13 Pro definitely feels that way compared to P30 in daily usage. As for everything else, apart from the camera, it was also a massive upgrade - A brighter + higher res panel, better speakers, faster charging, and a lot of Android 14 derived features that were simply missing on EMUI 12 that was based on Android 10. I wouldn't have even considered it if any of Xiaomi, Honor or BBK were actually releasing their high-end phones where I live - Oppo has Find N3 here but it's way out of my available budget, and it's foldable so I'm not superbly interested in it.

    2) You missed the part where I said I'm planning to get another phone which is likely going to be Note 23 Ultra, because it's on sale right now I simply can't get any of the phones I'm genuinely interested in. I keep 2 phones for my personal use and I want to retire P30 completely.

Nice phone but it's disappointing that they still have ads in the system by default on such an expensive phone. I know they can be disabled but this is basically using consumers to generate revenue as probably the majority of consumers won't disable the ads

That's why in reality, nobody's buying these expensive Xiaomi phones.

I would buy Xiaomi 14U, but I also like S-Pen.
              But maybe I'll buy a camera 😅

Rather than fixing, xiaomi tends to exchange bugs, old ones for new ones in updates.

I keep my phones anywhere between 1-3 years and tbh even if the short term experience might be usable, Xiaomi's longterm experience is crap compared to chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo, Realme, and in low end phones even Infinix, Tecno have surpassed it in stability.

potato4k, 27 Mar 2024If you love Xiaomi so much, then why don't you buy thi... moreI did. I switched from S23U. After a week I can say that when it comes to the software, yes Samsung is much better. It is much more polished and you have more options when it comes to customization. Also, the screen auto brightness for me seems to be not working at all in Xiaomi. But the camera... Samsung looks like a cheap 50$ phone when you compare. Especially DNGs. And for me, it is like 90% of the phone value.
So yes, I would like to have more polished software, but I can live with that.

potato4k, 28 Mar 2024LOL. The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G is a less than $300 phone. We... moreMy whole point is that HyperOS *isn't* a dreaded Android skin and it won't be the reason for me to avoid any Xiaomi devices in future, regardless of the price. I have no reason to get an iPhone when I already have one as my work phone, and Samsung phones wouldn't be ideal as I value the camera quality a lot (One of the few areas Samsung can somehow never get it right to this date). No phone is perfect, but the 14 Ultra would be more suited to my needs than whatever phones are currently sold in my country.

Look, I don't have anything against Samsung personally - The Redmi won't stay as my main phone for a long time, so realistically speaking I might just as well get the currently discounted Note 23 Ultra and call it a day, but that's only because those Chinese manufacturers are extremely reluctant to release their phones internationally. All phones with great cameras tend to stay in China, sadly.

Nick Tegrataker, 28 Mar 2024Eh, I would one if they would actually sell it where I live... moreLOL. The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G is a less than $300 phone. We are talking about a $1000+ phone here, more than triple the price of your Redmi.

And no, you won’t be buying Xiaomi when you’re spending $1000. At $200-$300, you can close your eyes and excuse the dreaded MiUI/HyperOS. But at $1000, are you willing to have such lackluster software? I doubt it.

potato4k, 27 Mar 2024That's why nobody is buying this phone. Anybody who ca... moreEh, I would one if they would actually sell it where I live.

I recently got Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G to replace my aging P30 that now suffers from severe battery degradation - When I was setting the new phone up, MIUI was indeed frustrating in many ways, but the latest update brought HyperOS which handles stuff (especially notification and background app management) much more gracefully and I don't have any significant problem with it at the moment. Small things like the setting menu organisation still don't feel as super refined as, say, ColorOS, EMUI or One UI, but it's a snappy skin that won't actively hold me back by behaving weirdly.

If any of Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus or Vivo decided to sell their flagships in my country, I would immediately jump onto it. It's just I don't buy phones without local warranty or pre-installed Google services, so the parallel imported CN phones are hardly an option for me.

Because that's what it says on the EXIF data of Xiaomi's photos. Regardless of in which mode you shoot, the EXIF tells you that the focal length of the lens is 9.87mm, which translates to roughly 60mm (So no, Xiaomi's short-tele lens isn't 65mm like you say, but 60mm equivalent). People found out Xiaomi was trying to mislead them with false specs SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE they directly contradicted the information provided in the EXIF.

Applying the same logic, Oppo never lied about Find X6 Pro/X7 Ultra's 2.7x telephoto camera specs, as the calculated figure perfectly matches the advertised "65mm" field of view.

It is impressive that the non-periscope tele camera has a focal length of 12.28mm (and even has a low minimum focus distance, which should require even more space). No other smartphone camera without periscope technology has such a high focal length. I wonder whether that means that there is theoretically enough space for periscope cameras with an effective diameter of 12.28mm (maximum effective diameter is 7.76mm currently)

It is actually quite exciting that the periscope camera has an effective lens diameter of 7.76mm. That's more than 40% larger than the effective diameter of a Pixel 7 Pro (5.43mm) or S24 Ultra (5.47mm). This means that theoretically, due to diffraction, future smartphones could be able to zoom 1.4x as much as the Pixel 7 Pro(which delivers about the same performance as the 8 Pro) and S24 Ultra without worse image quality.

Xiaomi doesn't seem to leverage the low diffraction of the periscope camera in this phone. A missed opportunity. Computerbild's comparison shows a lot of fake detail at 30x and 100x.
A better, more natural algorithm (that doesn't produce machine learning fake details) as well as a higher resolution of the sensor (even a 100 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor would have made sense due to the lower amount of diffraction) could have helped.

Aierlan, 27 Mar 2024The Z60 ultra probably has the best result of any ultrawide... moreExactly and Z60 ultra has set the standard which now should become the standard for premium flagships. It's premium, costly and should be strong hardware for any cam, it's highest level for phones, no excuses. For me UW more important, since i am already satisfied with zoom cams (if and when it becomes better, then even better), but not with UW cams.

Zuzuz, 27 Mar 2024What it matters is the result, not the size. The Z60 ultra probably has the best result of any ultrawide on the market. In lowlight in particular it's way ahead of all this year's other flagships. They use the same sensor on the ultrawide as Xiaomi is using for the main sensor on the Xiaomi Civi 4 pro. It's really strong. Having said that for me zoom is far more useful than the ultrawide
